CoachUp Acquires Athletes of Valor

[NEWTON, MA – October, 2018] – This week, the nation’s top private coaching platform, CoachUp, announced its acquisition of Athletes of Valor, which helps servicemen and women transition from the military to collegiate athletics.

Athletes of Valor’s platform allows active duty servicemen and women to create athlete profiles which they can then use to market themselves to college coaches across the country. Since launching in late 2016, several thousand military athletes have created profiles with Athletes of Valor, and many are now on college rosters across the country.

“CoachUp’s goal is to help athletes receive developmental, impactful coaching,” said CoachUp CEO, John Kelley. “This acquisition allows us to expand our offerings to servicemen and women as they transition out of the military—a time crucial to their personal and professional development.”

Since its start in 2012, CoachUp has helped hundreds of thousands of athletes across the U.S. improve at their given sport. Searching CoachUp’s database of 15,000 coaches across the country, athletes can find a coach who can help them refine their skills through options including private training, group training, clinics and/or virtual training.

“This acquisition allows Athletes of Valor to provide even more tools and resources to military athletes,” said Athletes of Valor CEO, Alex Stone. “The CoachUp nationwide coach network will now give military members the ability to work one-on-one with private coaches to ensure they reach their highest potential as an athlete.”

Stone will be joining the CoachUp team as Chief Operating Officer, and will continue to have oversight of Athletes of Valor, as well as lead other collaborative initiatives.

As breakthrough organizations in their respective categories, CoachUp and Athletes of Valor plan to combine their resources to provide servicemen and women the unique opportunity to compete on a collegiate team, contribute their experience and maturity, and be a part of something bigger than themselves. This will also provide veterans an opportunity to apply their leadership and athletic skills as coaches on the CoachUp platform.

“We’ve seen firsthand how sports can impact an individual’s development and future,” Kelley said, “We have tremendous reverence for our servicemen and women, and now, with having Athletes of Valor as a part of CoachUp, we’re excited to be able to help our veterans receive those same benefits from sports.”
