Coach Spotlight Interview: Basketball Coach Corey H.

2e4ea87ea9f2e46f9f10763631af0b55f42c6977Meet Coach Corey H.! Corey is an experienced basketball player out of Sacramento who has coached high school and junior high basketball. He loves basketball and became a coach to stay involved with the sport. He wants to share his knowledge of the game and help athletes reach their goals.

Tell us about your experience with basketball.

I played at the junior college level and tried out for a Division I school in California. I have since been coaching for 13 years at the junior high and high school levels. I help develop technique as well as character, sportsmanship and poise. I have a masters degree in coaching and athletic administration, and I’m always trying to develop as a teacher and a coach.

Why did you decide to become a private coach?

I wanted to be part of the game. I got cut from the team at Cal State Fullerton, and that turned me to coaching. I thought about everything my coaches had taught me. When I started working as a coach I listened as much as I could and gained as much insight on coaching philosophy as possible. I wanted to share my insights with athletes.

What can a client expect from private lessons with you?

I try to work with players, learn from them, and adapt as a coach when necessary. I want to make them better players in all aspects of the game, and help them become complete players.

What is your coaching philosophy?

My philosophy is based on helping my clients be the best that they can be. We set goals together and I help my clients visualize their goals.  We then follow through with our plan, so that they can reach these goals.

What is your favorite moment in your athletic career?

Winning junior varsity league title at South Pasadena as a head coach. The players that I worked with had a lot of heart and character and sacrificed a lot to win the title.

Do you have any success stories from coaching an athlete?

It is the little things that are my biggest successes – getting guys to score who you never thought would score. The highlights for the kids are highlights for me.

Do you have any surprising talents?

I am really good at juggling and teaching juggling, and have taught it to psychiatric patients.   Coach Corey is booking private basketball coaching sessions! Click here to access his profile and book a session.
