Love to run, swim or bike? A triathlon is a great way to compete in all three. Triathlons can seem intimidating at first, but a good triathlon coach will have you prepared in no time. Here’s a list of 5 races for the new triathloner:

1.HITS Triathlon Series: The HITS triathlon series are guaranteed to get you hooked on triathlons. There are 11 races per year in Florida, Texas, Colorado, New york, Arizona and California. Each with beautiful scenic views, from running through the London Bridge to biking by vineyards in Napa Valley. These series attract a range of athletes from beginners to experts. There are 5 different intensity levels ranging from “open” to “full” races. The open race starts with 100 m swim, 3 mile bike ride, and a 1 mile run. The full is a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile run.

2. On Your Mark Events: Tri for Fun: In Pleasanton, CA, this triathlon is all about having fun; no times are recorded and there are no winners. Designed for beginners, this race is composed of a 370 meter swim, 11 mile bike ride, and a 3 mile run. The swimming portion is in a nice clean lake and the bike and run are on paved roads, which are perfect for the novice. There a few different races throughout the year, so there’s plenty of time to sign up.

3.Tri-Oswego Sprint Course: This race is one of the harder ones on the list, but with beautiful scenic views of Oswego, NY and a nice ocean swim beginners can still enjoy the experience. You’ll swim 800 meters, bike 15.40 miles and run a 5k (3.2 miles).

4. Got the nerve? Triathlon: This race is known for allowing beginners, families, disabled, and professionals to compete side by side. Through Lancaster County, PA you’ll bike a 16 mile scenic road loop, run a 5k (3.2 miles) through woody trails and swim 460 m in a lake. This might seem like a lot, but it can be done individually or in teams of 3. There’s no better way to get into triathlons than by grabbing some friends and working together as a team.

5. Rancho Seco KIDS triathlon:: The list wouldn’t be complete without a triathlon for kids. This race takes place in Herald, CA and has different races throughout the year. It starts with the swim, which is 50 meters for kids under 10 and 150 meters for kids over. Then there is a 4 mile bike ride and a 1 mile run. This race is a great way to get your children into triathlons and have a new family activity.
