Meet Coach Chris K! Coach Chris
is a goalkeeper. He’s had years of experience playing soccer at the college level, internationally, and in the MLS for the Philadelphia Union. His main specialty is working with goalies and he likes doing one on one or small group sessions so that he can work more closely with an athlete.

Tell us about your soccer career.

In 2012, I was selected by the Philadelphia Union in the first round of the MLS Super Draft. I was the 13th overall pick. In college, I started and played in all 24 of UCLA’s games during the 2011 season. I tied the UCLA record for consecutive games with a goal and set the all-time single season Pac-12 records for goals and points.

Why did you decide to become a private coach?

I’ve been around soccer for a long time and have gained a wealth of knowledge. I really want to be able to give back to younger players.

What do you enjoy most about coaching?

I like working one on one or even in a small group of four with goalkeepers. It’s easier to see everything. The smaller tendencies that players have become easier to correct.

What can a client expect from private lessons with you?

I work with goalies on the technical aspects of goalkeeping. This includes proper catching and diving technique. I can work with younger players who might be trying to make it to varsity or looking to make the soccer team or older players looking to make it to the next level or stay sharp.

Who is your favorite coach and why?

I’ve had a lot of different coaches and learned so many different things from them over the years. It’s hard to pick just one. I’ve had great coaches all through high school, college, and at the professional level.

What is your favorite moment in your athletic career?

I loved playing in Ireland when I was there. We won everything we could possibly win the League of Ireland Championship, the FAI Cup, and the Europa league.

Did you participate in your sport in high school and college (if so, where)?

I played college soccer at Providence College, finishing third all-time in games played and leading the Friars to three straight BIG EAST Championship Semi-Finals and two straight NCAA Tournaments. In 2006, I earned Second Team All-BIG East honors.

What other sports or activities do you enjoy playing or practicing?

I love surfing. I grew up on ocean.

What is your favorite sports related movie?

Major League and Major League 2.

What team do you root for most enthusiastically? (any sport)

I’m a big Philly sports fan. I love the Eagles for football and Phillies for baseball.
