Yoga Tips: Chaturanga Dandasana

CoachUp Coach and Vinyasa yoga instructor Meghan Quinn explains the chaturanaga and how to execute it.

Hi, my name is Meghan Quinn, vinyasa yoga instructor, and CoachUp coach. Chaturanga is an important posture to strengthen the muscles of the shoulders and because you do it so often during a yoga class, it is important to have proper alignment to protect the shoulders from injury. To come into Chaturanga, you’re gonna first start in plank pose, so walk out into plank pose and make sure that your shoulders are stacked directly over your wrists. When you’re first starting out, a great option is to come to your knees first. So come to your knees, and then you lengthen out from the knees, all the way to the crown of the head, so you’re a nice, long line. And then you start to bend your elbows, pinning them into your side and slowly lower all the way down to your belly.
