Football Tips: How to Catch a Football Hi, I’m Reggie Rembert former first-team All-American from the United States Air Force Academy and CoachUp coach. And this is the catch. In football, the most important thing is the football. As a receiver, the most important thing is to catch the football, and the second most important thing is to secure the football. You always want to catch the ball with your hands. You rarely want to catch the ball with your body. First things first is, you want to create a diamond with your hands. You want to get the point of the football inside of that diamond. When it hits your hands you’re gonna squeeze and you wanna secure the catch locking it into your pocket. And then go run for a touchdown!
