Meet all-star basketball Coach Bobby K! Coach Bobby teaches players to use "Mad Dog Defense" and "Loose Train Offense" because he believes hard defensive work and quick ball movement can bring any team success. He is a dedicated basketball coach with years of experience.
Why did you decide to become a private coach?
Originally I was coaching kids just for the love of the game and my support of their dreams. I found that a lot of the kids I trained were entering the NBA, NCAA top 25 programs, many Mid-Major programs, and International professional programs. Many of these kids did not know much about the game before I worked with them. With all this success, I realized that I have a talent for coaching. As my own children are getting older and need more requirements, I have begun to use what I was doing for free as a commodity. Still, I coach basketball because it is my passion and I know that I can help kids achieve their basketball goals.
What do you enjoy most about coaching?
The thing that I enjoy most about coaching is winning! Many people will tell you that this is shallow or should be of the least enjoyment, but winning is the most satisfying part of the game. If I can teach kids how to win, then all of the life lessons that they will need, they can learn in the process of becoming a winner and a goal setter.
What can a client expect from private lessons with you?
A client can expect to get what they pay for in a private session with me. I have been blessed enough to see ball players go from the "GUTTERMOST" to the "UTTERMOST". I am confident that I can help set and achieve realistic goals for each player. A client can expect an all-encompassing, honest film evaluation, a prescription to close the gap in deficiencies in his or her game, and an in-depth consultation about the sessions we will have to achieve his or her goals. Another luxury that I offer is college scholarship exposure and assistance through my many college relationships.
Who is your favorite coach and why?
My favorite coach would have to be the late Coach John McLendon. Coach McLendon taught the young men of his day how to deal with adversity and societal ills through the game of basketball. I am proud to say that I am the youngest coach on his tree. I believe that the wisdom he imparted in me on how to build a championship team is priceless! I vowed to be the first Head Coach to win a NCAA D1 title at an HBCU in his honor, but my opportunity has not arrived yet.
What other sports and activities do you enjoy playing?
I enjoy golf, swimming, biking, fishing, hiking, dominoes, cards, and just being goofy with my kids!
What's your mantra or favorite saying?
My mantra is “1-2-3, WE ALL WE GOT”! I heard a high school team break the huddle with that chant years ago and thought "WOW!" I had to have it as a motto for my teams, because it exemplifies the meaning of a team.
