More About Coach Shelby

I have been training Football players for 11 years now. I started as a Pop Warner coach for the Newport Vikings where I was the Defensive Coordinator for the team. Our defense performed near the top of the division (official stats are not kept at that level). I was able to turn that into an opportunity to be an assistant coach for the Offensive and Defensive line at East Carteret High School. While my expertise is diverse. My dedication to helping players excel knows no positional boundaries. I have coached players on both sides of the ball, and I am able to help develop great fundamentals.

I have written a book and it is published on Amazon.com. Created to help young players change their mindset and workout programming.

The Playmaker’s Guide to Success: From Making the Team to Getting in The Lineup

I was a WRAL player to watch heading into the 2008-2009 season at Athens Drive High School. Where I also played serval positions. I was a Running Back coming into fall camp of my Sophomore season and then I converted to Linebacker right before the season began. I became a starting Inside Linebacker week one of that season. When moving up to varsity I converted once again to the Defensive Line. Playing my Junior and Senior year at the Defensive End and Defensive Tackle position. I was recruited by Stonehill College in MA, Bridgewater College in VA, and Greensboro College in NC. I attended Greensboro College as a Defensive End in the fall of 2009.

I am currently playing for a local Semi-pro team. Where I play a variety of positions and assist in coaching up fellow teammates.

My philosophy derives from the basic standpoint that "Playmakers are made through preparation". My goal is to break down the game and teach the fundamentals. Depending on your position we will work on the basics from the ground up. Starting with proper footwork and working our way up. The keys to building a great player is making them fundamentally sound, properly conditioned and prepared to understand their role in a game under the changing circumstances.

1. 5 minute warm-up
2. 15 minutes of basic alignments, getting off the ball, and Questions and answer
3. 10 minutes of footwork drills and hand placement drills
4. 15 minutes of positional drills reassuring the comprehension of the first two segments
5. 5 minutes of conditioning drills
6. 5 minutes of cool down stretching
7. 5 minutes assessment of the days work out

Coach Shelby is an excellent coach. He was able to assess my son's skill and devise a plan how to improve them efficiently. Just booked more sessions with him. I would recommend him to coach everyone.

Great coach to work with , very flexible with scheduling . Helped our son understand his weaknesses to improve his game. Highly recommend.

My son really enjoys training with Coach Shelby! He was a little hesitant to do a 1 on 1 session but five minutes into the session his apprehension disappeared and he had a great time while learning and getting in a good workout. Coach Shelby is very responsive to messages as well.

Coach Shelby is very good with kids. I am very glad that I chose him. His reviews sold me on the coach for my son. My son is 14 and it's his first year playing football. I appreciate him teaching fundamentals and he is talking with my son alot to build his confidence. I would suggest Coach Shelby very highly to anyone.

Good work with my son!! Very good teacher of fundamentals!

Coach Shelby is wonderful! My son is just starting to play football at 15 and he is amazing at teaching him the fundamentals.

I would certainly give Coach Shelby more than 5 stars if possible. He's not a yeller, but a demonstrator and educator. If you are looking for a Coach that teaches technique and encourages your young athlete while building trust and respect with them, Coach Shelby is your Coach.

Listened to everything I said and gave his best advice. Glad I chose him

Coach Shelby has been great for my seventeen year old son who has done a lot of athletics but has never played football. He wants to play tight end. Coach Shelby is helping him learn the position by introducing different elements each practice. My son has really enjoyed it.

Knowledgeable, personable and really shows his love of football. Excited for my son to work with him.

Coach Shelby was great. After my son's first lesson he was already showing improvement and excitement. Shelby was very friendly and encouraging which definitely boosted my son's confidence. We will definitely be booking more sessions soon.

Shelby was super friendly and totally prepared for my son's scheduled lesson. My son had a great time and learned a lot. We will certainly be connecting with Coach Shelby in the near future for more training time.

my Son has improved so much the other parents can’t believe how good he has gotten. Coach Shelby has done amazing work with my son on the fundamentals of the game. I would highly recommend him to any parent who wants to help there son get better. My son loves working with him. Thanks Coach Shelby

Coach Shelby was very helpful, kid friendly, and knowledgeable of multiple positions. Great first session.

Coach Shelby was great! He really worked with teaching my son proper form and good foot work at his position. I highly recommend him, as he’s very knowledgeable and a skilled coach.

My son loved his first session with Shelby! He learned more in one hour than he did at football camp!!

Great Coach, professional, courteous and knowledgeable! I am recommending Coach Kea to everyone...

Coach Shelby has done a fantastic job with our son! Our son plays OL/DL and needed some work on his mechanics. Coach Shelby has a great demeanor, truly understands the lineman position and does a great job teaching our 12 year old. Our son has improved and learned a great deal about the different lineman positions. He is teaching him the small things that make a big difference when playing the game. He gives great feedback and has catered his sessions to our son’s needs.

No doubt Coach Shelby loves football and loves coaching. He is very well organized and always starts on time, if not before. He communicates with our grandson very well. I am so pleased that Coach Shelby is coaching our 17 year old grandson.

Very knowledgeable about the smaller details. He breaks it down and explains why placing your hands in a certain spot is important or why a step here and there can be the difference. He helped me learn to run my routes in a crisp fashion and how to make some basic sight adjustments depending on coverage.
