More About Coach Ryan

I currently coach for Corona Del Mar High School and am currently the Wide Receiver coach (2 seasons) for the 2019 CIF State Championship Varsity Football Team and the Head Coach of the Boys Freshman Basketball team (5th season). Prior to coaching the receivers I coached the Linebackers (2015-17) and was the JV Defensive Coordinator. I have also coached and ran clinics for Friday Night Lights Flag Football out of Los Alamitos for 10 years.

I played football and basketball for Servite High School and graduated in 2014. My athletic career was cut a little short after suffering a couple surgeries and other injuries that led to my decision to forego my athletic career.

There is a reason for every detail in my workouts and will vary on certain goals the athlete is trying to accomplish. If the goal is to be a better outside linebacker then a typical hour workout would be;

Warmup (Footwork): 5 minutes
Cone drill- one foot, two foot, hop scotch, side step, running back, skiers, salsa, W drill, flippers, hip rotationals, bunny hop

Speed, stance, and agilities: 25 minutes
5x 10 pass drops (each side)
5x10 run stops (each side)
3 Cone shuttle
4 cone drill
Swarm drill

Mental/Physical: 30 minutes
Run reads- counter, stretch, zone
Pass reads- curl-flat combo, 2 verticals, post-wheel
Boot rules- naked with TE delay, FB flat, TE over

Recap: 5 mins
How the day went? What we improved and struggled with? Review.

Explanation:
The warmup is key to prevent injuries such as torn ACL and MCLs. The activity is also an element to get the muscles working and to get a little sweat before the meat of the workout.

The middle segment will help obtain strength, speed, and improve techniques needed to perform at the high school level at a minimum .

The third segment is labeled "Mental/Physical" because what will be taught during this segment will be worked on immediately after. Techniques and the way this position player will defend certain offensive plays will be stressed during this part. These movements and terminology used during this session are needed to be learned as the athlete moves to the next level.

The review session might be the most important part of the workout. The last thing an athlete needs is to leave a workout without remembering anything he/she did. There is a purpose for everything that goes on in the workout and the review session will go over what was taught during the session. It will be a reminder for the athlete and why what was performed or learned has a reason.

Awesome coach

He is a high school coach currently. If your kid is going into HS Football and never played before take a few sessions with Ryan. Immensely helpful

We just had coach Ryan for receiver training. He is very knowledgeable and knows how to work with kids including young teenagers. Coach Ryan knows the game very well!

Great coach taught new techniques and motion to throw a football.

After the first session my son saw some improvement and so we scheduled another session and my son grew even more. We plan on scheduling some more as Coach does an amazing job. He really focuses on details that are often missed when coaches are coaching a huge team.

Coach Ryan was great with my 10 year old son teaching him new techniques in the QB position. He’s very knowledgeable and was breaking it down so that my son could understand.

In just three sessions, Coach Ryan helped my grandson increase his confidence in his abilities. Last week, my grandson tried out for quarterback on his flag football team. He found the sessions to be informative, interesting and looked forward to Coach Ryan's instruction.

Great coach! Really helpful and explains every little detail and shows many examples to understand. pushes you to improve

Coach Ryan was just awesome. We were visiting from Texas and Coach Ryan was exactly what we were looking for in a coach to continue the training while in CA on vacation. I would highly recommend him to anyone and plan to use his service next time we're in CA.

Great session. My son enjoyed a lot and wants to do more. Feels like he is improving. Definitely would recommend Ryan

Coach Ryan is an excellent teacher.

Ryan has a very up tempo positive approach to his instruction with my 11 year old son. He's a very knowledgable coach, who takes the time to explain why the drills are important, increasing my sons football knowledge dramatically. He is very prompt, more than accommodating with scheduling and location. A young coach I believe who will be really going places in the very near future. I would highly recommend him to anyone that has a son enthusiastic about football that is looking to bring their game to a new higher level.
