Introduction Video

More About Coach Rod

(SHOOTING SPECIALIST) As a certified Ihoops Coach, I've coached not only worked with elementary level athletes but college aged players as well. I've mentored high school level athletes and published instructional videos and literature. My goal is to develop as many players as possible. Currently training athletes in Cabot, Searcy Judsonia, & Bradford. I am seeking more athletes to train and basketball camps to participate in.

In high school I wasn't a good shooter. My coach told me I would never become one. I proved him wrong putting in years of hard work and developing into shooting specialist. I pride myself on being a proven shooting instructor, trading information with other shooting instructors of the Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets, as well as the famed Dick Baumgartner.

I walked on at the University of Central Arkansas in 1997 and played intramural basketball at ASU & UCA for much of my college career.

I pride myself on being a student of the game, constantly studying shooting, defensive, passing and scoring techniques of the best in the game (Kobe Bryant, Steve Kerr, Michael Jordan, Reggie Miller, Stephen Curry, Lebron James, Scottie Pippen, John Stockton, Hakeem Olajuwon, etc) and breaking down game footage of high school, college and pro games. I analyze the game and find ways to make it easier for athletes to understand it.

UNDERSTAND THIS : A good trainer has a plan and advises players on the in-between time. A good trainer knows his limitations and knows that a player cannot develop in one individual workout or a couple group workouts per week. In the end, it isn’t about the trainer or which trainer that you use. In the end, your effort, dedication, concentration and practice matter.

Learn proper shooting mechanics

Learn to run the fastbreak off defensive rebounds
Learn to convert steals into points
Learn dribble moves that get you past defenders and to the hoop
Learn how to finish at the basket
Learn to shoot free throws, treys and mid-range shots

"Top 5 Benefits of Private Basketball Training With Me"

1. Individual Attention - Although basketball is undeniably a team sport; Private Training allows individuals to work on their weaknesses while developing and improving strengths. During and/or after rehabilitation, Personal Training allows individuals to get their skills and confidence back at their own pace. Players have unique characteristics, skill sets and athletic abilities. One-on-one training allows each individual to work at their own speed and learning curve; equaling faster results.

2. Personalized Workouts - I will evaluate your current skill level, asses your strength/weaknesses, develop a personalized practice plan and continually push players to improve. Customizing workouts squeezes the most out of training by addressing the needs and wants of each individual.

3. Quality Repetition - I focus on fundamentals, footwork, proper form, core balance and other essential basketball techniques which differentiates good, quality repetitions, from bad. I will always make sure that each drill is being executed properly so players benefit the most from each workout.

4. Quantity Repetition - Personal Training allows for 100% individual participation; making high repetition, in a short time frame, possible. Players are given the opportunity to learn, develop and improve individual skills that are needed to succeed on the team level.

5. One-on-One Insight - As a former player that reached college level of play, I am able to develop a trust and rapport with players which encourages question asking and strives for understanding. I promote self-confidence and leadership in various forms; along with giving away tips and “tricks of the trade.”

Client Reviews

Coach Rod was the greatest!!! In just one session it's amazing the improvements my son made with his help. They had an instant connection from the start! He talked him through everything & built my son's confidence level & he cannot wait until the next session! Highly recommend!!!!

Coach Rod is the best trainer in the area. We've had others that cost more for us, and our child got less from them. It's been about three weeks, and the progress has been simply amazing. Everybody has noticed from the guys he plays pickup games with to his coaches. I knew after the first session that we found our new trainer. He seems like the kind of guy that loves the sport so much he just wants to share it, and it's not all about the rewards for him.

Coach Rod, was great! My son learned soooo much from the first session.

Very knowledgeable and very patient with young children. Sean shot the ball with more confidence and could better understand what he did wrong when he didn't shoot it correctly. Immediately signed up more lessons.

I wasn't able to attend the session, my husband took my daughter tonight and all I can say is wow! She is more confident than she's been all season! We cannot wait to see how our daughter progresses under his coaching/mentoring, after this one session she is already a better shooter!!

Thanks so much!!

Kam really liked Coach Rod and has been practicing the techniques that he taught him. Coach Rod relates well to my 8 yr. old grandson and makes the lessons fun. Kam is looking forward to more lessons!

I spent 6 years playing basketball through high school. Coach Rod was able to teach my 13 year old son within 30 mins, things that I was never taught. His techniques are solid and easily demonstrated and learned. He learned more tangible skills in 1 hour of Coach Rod's training than he did his entire 7th grade year of junior high basketball. I've already scheduled him for the next weekend. I highly recommend him to others looking to improve their skills or the skills of their children.

An excellent session with immediate measurable results. Would highly recommend!

This comment was in response to the most recent shooting demo video I posted on Youtube. If I was in the USA I'd hire this man great ball skills and what a way to improve yourself even if you cannot play the game. Would learn to keep your eye on the ball! Sometimes gym is a waste we all need to learn how to move and be accurate in business. It' s tough full on world demanding many skills. This man is an inspiration!
When Coach Mosby started working with me on my shooting, I was in the 11th grade playing small forward. I didn't have a good shot; therefore, I slashed and utilized my athleticism to get to the basket a lot. His technique was easy to understand once I decided to forget what I thought already knew about shooting. I didn't think about what I was doing. I just did what he instructed, and BOOM! I was shooting treys as if they were free throws. He helped me change my footwork, hand placement, release and shot creation. He taught me that the trey, free throw and mid-range jumper were all the same shot. During the tournament my senior year, I had a 40 and 35 point game, shooting 50% from the 3 point line taking at least 8 attempts per game. I also shot 85% from the free throw line. Adding those skills drew a lot of attention from the defense and opened up things for my teammates. Thanks Coach!
My kids were up at 7 am counting down for you 10 o'clock practice. They love it!
