More About Coach Mark

CoachUp - Running Coach Rankings: #2 in TX, #9 in USA

I’m a passionate, highly experienced, and extensively certified endurance running coach. I work with athletes from middle school through Masters in track & field, cross country, and road racing. I coach events from 800 meters to the marathon using science-based, event-specific training with athletes locally and around the world.

I’ve been coaching since 2006 and spent nine years as Head Endurance Coach for the Central Florida Gliders Track & Field and Cross Country Club, where I coached athletes to medals at USA Junior Nationals, USATF and AAU Youth Nationals, and multiple high school and middle school state championships.

I hold six coaching certifications, including:
• USA Track & Field (USATF) – Level 1 (Track & Field), Level 2 (Endurance), Level 3 (Endurance)
• World Athletics / IAAF – Level V (Academy Coach), Endurance
• U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) – Track & Field Technical Coach & Endurance Event Specialist

One of my favorite coaching success stories is helping an inexperienced but talented 6th-grade girl go from a 5:57 1600m and 2:43 800m to a 4:38 1500m (~4:58 1600m) and 2:14 800m in just 14 months—using age-appropriate, carefully managed training.

Before coaching endurance running, I also spent five years as a youth soccer coach.

***FAQ***
Q1: Who do you coach?
I coach distance runners from middle school through adults. That includes track athletes from 800m to 10,000m, road runners from 5K to half marathon, cross country runners, and adults preparing for Physical Fitness Tests (PFTs) such as military, police, or fire.

Q2: I am new. Which session should I book first?
If you are not sure where to start, book a New Client Online Consult if you want to meet virtually, or a New Client In-Person Consult + Intro Workout if you are within driving distance of Humble, TX 77346. In that first session we will review your goals, training background, and current needs, and I will recommend the best next step, such as ongoing sessions, a Premium Running Form Assessment & Report, or a training plan.

Q3: Do you work with athletes who already have a school or club coach?
Yes. Many of my athletes already have a primary coach at school or on a club team. My goal is not to replace your coach, but to provide individualized attention that is hard to give in a large group, such as detailed form feedback, pacing guidance, race strategy, and long-term development planning.

Q4: What is the difference between in-person and online sessions?
In-person sessions are best for supervised workouts, time trials, and real-time form work on the track or road. Online sessions by Zoom or phone are best for training reviews, planning, education, and PFT strategy. Many athletes use a mix of both, depending on schedule and location.

Q5: Do you offer ongoing support or only one-time sessions?
I offer both. Some runners only need a one-time consult, form assessment, or key workout. Others benefit from an Ongoing Coaching Retainer, a PFT training plan, or periodic check-ins throughout a season. The right level of support depends on your goals, your budget, and how much structure and accountability you want. We will discuss this in your initial consult so that you choose an option that fits your needs.

I was an all-around athlete who excelled in track & field, cross country, soccer, and volleyball. I captained my high school track & field team and went on to compete in track & field, volleyball, and soccer at the collegiate level. A significant ACL injury eventually ended my competitive career, but it also gave me first-hand insight into injury prevention, smart training, and resilience.

Whether you are local or working with me from another state or country, every session is customized to your needs using a mix of tools, techniques, drills, workouts, and training plans. Depending on the athlete, we may focus on strengths and weaknesses, breathing techniques, running form, pacing, race strategy, workout design, or long-term training structure.

Not sure where to begin? Book a New Client Online Consult or a New Client In-Person Consult + Intro Workout, and I will recommend the best next step for you, whether that is a Premium Running Form Assessment, a PFT Run Training Plan, or an ongoing coaching option.

Initial Session / Consult
Your first session (in person, by phone, or video conference) is a deep dive into you as a runner. It typically includes some or all of the following:

Discussion of your goals, needs, prior training, and race history

Dynamic warm-up routine

Drills and/or workouts to assess endurance, speed, strength, flexibility, agility, balance, coordination, cadence, aerobic capacity, and running form

Review and analysis of running form (live and/or pre-recorded video)

Clear feedback, initial findings, and specific recommendations

You will leave the first session with valuable information, practical tips, and a sense of whether I am the right coach for you, and recommended next steps. To get the most out of this session, athletes complete a brief intake form beforehand and, when possible, bring race results and splits from the past 12 months.

Ongoing Work Together
All clients, whether one-time or regular, can expect to walk away with critical knowledge to get more out of their training and their relationship with a primary coach (school, club, or professional). Regular clients may also receive updated athlete profiles and detailed training plans as we progress.

Even if you already have an excellent primary coach, it is often difficult for them to provide truly individualized attention to every athlete. A few targeted sessions with an experienced coach can make a big difference. Sometimes your breakthrough comes from adjusting race strategy, pacing, or the balance of your training.

Note for in-person sessions:
Training facilities do not have lights, so daylight sessions are recommended. Pre-dawn and after-dusk sessions may involve using flashlights on the 400m track and personal headlamps as needed.

Client Reviews

Coach Mark is the real deal. His workouts completely transformed my running game — not only did I hit my target time, I actually crushed it. He knows exactly how to push you just the right amount and makes every session challenging but doable. The training plans are super personalized, and the progress speaks for itself.

I’ll definitely keep training with him because the results (and the motivation) are next-level. Couldn’t recommend him more if you’re serious about leveling up.

My daughter had her first online session with Coach Mark. Since she is a middle distance runner, he explained and described the type of runner she may be and discussed some race strategies. He answered all of our questions and was extremely knowledgeable. Thank you!

As an adult who is trying to complete a PFT for work I was struggling a little bit. Coach Mark laid out a training plan and evaluated my form. I’ve met with him 2 times in person but he's always communicating via text and in fact he has checked in on me several times to see my progress. He takes time to thoroughly understand where I feel like i am having problems and also reviews my running times/data then makes adjustments accordingly. I started 4 weeks ago and i can see I am improving. I would suggest anyone start early as possible, my PFT is about 4 months away and definitely choose Coach Mark.

Coach Mark, was great with my son. Asked many questions to get to know and assess him as an athlete. Was good to get one on one instruction and assessment. Look forward to learning about his technique and how he can improve.

Coach Mark was very knowledgeable and helpful! We went over running form and then went over ways to improve and what was already fine. We then did some running circuits and he knew what he was talking about, and more than willing to explain terms in an easy way. We went over racing strategies with an actionable plan to move forward and progress! I’d highly recommend him.

Coach Mark is very knowledgeable and helpful. He touched upon many important topics in our first session that were very informative in helping us getting started in the right direction.

As this was my first time experiencing coaching online from out of state in VA, I will admit I was a tad skeptical; however, I left that session with a list of improvements and advice I could apply in my races. My first session with Coach Mark was so helpful. He clarified and dove into some nitty-gritty tips and strategies for running the 800m. Whatever question I asked, he went above and beyond in his responses, explaining patiently and with detail. Thank you, Coach Robinson!

It’s very obvious that coach Mark is very passionate with what he does. He showed a genuine interest in helping my daughter and make her very comfortable during our initial online evaluation. We are looking forward to meet coach Mark in person for her running form assessment.

Coach Mark is a great coach. Many session done in a short amount of time. Thank you!

Very helpful and knowledgeable.

Hello! I had my first session with Mark, and it became a beneficial start to my big goal. He came to the session with a plan as I was nervous, unsure of what to expect. I felt comfortable enough to tell him I was nervous. Overall I’m excited to see what happens next.

So far very professional, straight forward and gave awesome tips on the first day of meeting with him. Looking forward to more sessions as we progress with the program. 💯

Coach Mark did a wonderful job analyzing my daughter. He has a vast knowledge on running mechanics. I highly recommend him

The session was great. It was nice to see technology used in parallel with visual expertise, to help define areas to improve and explain the reasoning.

Coach Mark is an awesome guy who will give you a true assessment of your athlete’s current condition.

Thanks Coach Mark!

Amazing! He does an outstanding job with things

Very responsive via phone, text, email, and zoom. Great knowledge base and experience. Taylored workouts and goals week to week. Highly recommended.

I have been going to Mark for about 3-4 weeks I thoroughly enjoy my sessions. In 4 weeks, I already have seen much improvement. Mark is a great coach, very patient, educated, experienced, and personable. He creates a unique training plan designed for you and adjusts it as necessary depending on performance. Running has never been a strength of mine nor do I typically enjoy it. However, I have an important tests coming up that itis vital I pass. I cannot wait to continue to see improvement in my performance. I am positive I would
Not be where I am if it was not for him. Bring 100 percent effort and you will get better. Can’t wait to see what the future holds. If you book with Mark, you will not regret it. Good luck!

We are very pleased with Coach Mark's initial Premium Running Form Assessment of our daughter, who is a high school cross-country runner. He gave great tips during the assessment meetup, and we look forward to working with him to help her improve specific issues in her posture/form and set her pacing more strategically.

Coach Robinson has been great! Very fast response time, has a ton of knowledge and we are already learning a lot. We look forward to continuing the process of getting better under his guidance.

Coach Mark was very knowledgeable and took time to answer all of my questions. He videotaped my running form and then afterwards reviewed it with me and gave me pointers on how to improve. He also helped me to establish a workout regimen that will help me to reach my ultimate fitness goals. I highly recommend him!

Good session. Looking forward next session.

Coach Mark is extremely knowledgeable and has great insight in long distance running. My daughter has had one session with Coach Mark and is already feeling more confident in her off season preparation for the upcoming cross country season.

Coach Mark was awesome. I'd recommend him and I will work with him again.

On our first meeting, Mark was able to provide insight on the very first day. He seems very knowledgeable and understands the technical aspects of running so can cater his workouts accordingly. Would highly recommend Mark and I will be booking more appointments.

Great coach!

Coach Mark was great during our first session. He was extremely professional and insightful. I saw a glimpse of hope after discussing a plan with him. The knowledge in regards to proper stretching etc made me feel more confident. Since our first meeting he has followed up and provided instruction that is keeping me on track to reach my goal.

I'm a competitive CrossFit athlete looking to improve my biggest weakness, which is running capacity. I'm very impressed by the knowledge of Coach Mark and his ability to take my sport specific goals and apply a successful running strategy to improve my running capacity. He has helped me with running form, breathing, training philosophy and specific workouts that compliment my current training. You can tell he cares a great deal for his athletes and their success. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to improve their fitness and running specific needs!

Coach Mark showed how much experience he has training athletes. He was well prepared and answered all our questions. I feel confident he will help my son improve his running times.

Very knowledgeable and friendly, answered every question with detail.

Great coach! Gave my daughter a lot of information to work on and to process. I will definitely book again.

I just recently meet with Mark for my daughter's first session and found it most informative. His knowledge and understanding of distance running from physical to mental to the actual science behind it was most intriguing. My daughter loved the way he broke stuff down and made it understandable, from graph charts to recommendations on further activities and that was only 1 session. Looking forward to meeting again.

Coach Mark is thorough and explains the science behind the techniques distance runners implement. He is flexible on practice times and makes himself available for any after session questions. He also follows up after races with his clients which is awesome! We have already seen improvement in our short time together and would definitely recommend him to others looking for that one on one personal training to boost performance.

Mark is thorough and really focuses on the little things that can make a big difference.

My daughter had her 1st coaching session with Coach Robinson last weekend. He was very thorough in his evaluation and took the time to really talk and listen to my daughter about her short term and long term goals. Coach Robinson is extremely knowledgable and we left feeling like the session had been time well spent. We look forward to working with Coach Robinson and benefiting from all his knowledge and experience.

Having my child work with Coach Robinson has been very good experience. He is extremely professional, dependable and always on time. He is a strong track Coach and has really helped my daughter improve her running form. She really appreciates working with him and she is already improving a lot. He's very personable, knowledgeable and communicates well with her.

Coach Mark was ready when I showed up! We did a short warm up and discussed goals and current training progress. After that, we did some quick strides and short runs while he took video. After that, I did a 2 mile run for a baseline. Afterwards, we discussed path forward and some tips to work on until we meet again. Definitely recommend.

Coach Mark did a good job.

Coach Mark was an excellent Coach. We had eight sessions with him and he created personalized workouts to help my boyfriend reach his goals. My boyfriend has a smart watch and he was able to integrate the watch data into his workout plans. I would highly recommend Coach Mark. In fact, we will be working with him again for our next event. Thank you for your dedication to your clients!

Our first meeting with Coach Robinson was great. He gave my son some great tips to implement immediately and he is looking forward to his upcoming sessions.

Coach Robinson is what the dictionary would define as an amazing coach. He always has the answer to any question and is very knowledgeable on various topics related to running. He promotes hard work and tries to focus athletes on giving 110% during practice so that a race is the fun, easy part of the training. Coach Robinson takes into account the abilities of each athlete and helps to determine the best route for enjoyment and success with the sport. Coach Robinson provides you with an honest account of positive feedback on what you did well on and how you can improve. Coach Robinson is the greatest coach there is and if you get the chance to learn from him, you wouldn't want to miss that opportunity!
I met Mark in 2010 or 2011 when our teenage boys were competing as youth runners but it wasn’t until the spring of 2015 that my daughter joined his track team. My daughter was new to running and from day 1 Mark made her feel comfortable. Coaching a team of boys and girls ranging from ages 8-18 can be challenging but Mark always had a plan for each individual runner. Mark’s carefully thought out practices helped maximize each runner’s ability. Mark was constantly preaching proper running technique and habits to his runners. Practices always had a purpose and rarely was a minute wasted. When it came time for our meets, Mark was always available to recommend which events each runner should run in. During the meets, Mark was there to offer encouragement and positive coaching. It was clear to me why so many runners have flourished under Mark’s tutelage.
I have known Coach Robinson for the last four years as he coached my children from Elementary school through to High School. I myself am a qualified coach and Sport Scientist and I have worked with many coaches in the UK and here in the US. I can confidently say that Coach Robinson is one of the best coaches that I have come across and have always been impressed with his professionalism, planning, organisational and coaching skills. I have seen him develop athletes to State and National levels including my own children.
Coach Robinson coached me during my 10th grade track season and he is without doubt the most knowledgeable coach I have ever run under. He was always able to answer my questions and keep me confident. He would always stay in touch with me to see how I was feeling and how I felt I was doing. His training schedule is easy to understand and helps you peak at the perfect time! He also taught me the importance of easy/recovery runs, because even the slow and easy days are just as essential as the other days.
