More About Coach Kate

Previously, I have mostly worked with seventh and eighth grade girls. I was a Head Coach for the Pittsburgh Nets AAU basketball team, and I loved having the opportunity to strengthen the girls’ abilities on and off the court. Additionally, my two younger brothers play Division 1 soccer at Cornell University, and I have had the opportunity to work with them on running form. This opportunity enables me to coach running principles to athletes of all sports. My goal is to spread my knowledge I learned as a collegiate sprinter to younger generations to better equip them in their athletic endeavors. One of my main focuses is on addressing any weaknesses or imbalances in the athlete that may be inhibiting their speed, in order to prevent injuries and improve overall performance.

Former NCAA Division 1 Sprinter at Davidson College. At my time at Davidson, I held the 100 meter (11.93s), 200 meter (24.60s), and the 4x100 meter relay records. I am the first and only female so far to score for Davidson in the 100 meters at the Atlantic 10 Championship. I also anchored the 4x100 meter relay team to Davidson’s first podium finish (3rd place) ever in that event. I was also on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll all 4 years.

A typical session would be around an hour, broken down into a warm-up, drills, speed/endurance, and a cool down. First, I will teach the athlete a warm-up so their body is prepared for the rest of our session. Next, we will focus on sprint mechanic drills (A skips, B skips, C skips, fast leg drills, etc.). Once the athlete has these down, we will put these sprint mechanics to the test by either doing some speed repetitions or endurance ones, based on what the athlete needs more. If it helps the athlete to have someone to run against, I will train with them during this part of the session. Afterwards, I will show the athlete a static cool-down, so they will be ready for whatever practice they have the next day.
