More About Coach Jim
I enjoy sharing training strategies from marathon champions that have guided me; Amby Burfoot, Bill Rodgers, Uta Pippig, Catherina McKiernan, Johnny Kelley as well as many other friends! Whether you are hoping to complete a marathon or improve your personal best, I will navigate you through the process. I have successfully converted runners from mid pack "jolly joggers" to qualifying for the Boston Marathon. I am currently certified as a Connecticut Interscholastic Coach.
Received "Inspirational Runner" award presented by Hartford Marathon Foundation. Top regional master runner. At 50 years old I ran a 1:23 half marathon and 3:02 marathon. Eight-time Boston Marathon finisher. I serve on two boards for running related nonprofit organizations (John Kelley Memorial Fund and Girls on the Run).
Initially, a runner's goals are assessed. Then an individualized training block is developed. This program is governed by current fitness level, age, past injuries and desired finish time. I enjoy supporting runners in all aspects of our sport.
