More About Coach Pete

I have coached since my junior year of college as a assistant special teams coach at Northern Arizona. After graduating college my junior year I went to my formal high school Desert Vista were I was a QB/WR coach for the varsity team for a year. Then I went to graduate school in Samford University in Birmingham Alabama a D1 AA football program, where I did one on one and group training sessions on the field and in the weight room for several for there skilled position players. I have been back in the Phoenix area the last 7 years and have continued developing boys into men on and off the field. I specialize in QBs, but do train WR, RB, FS, SS, CB . Have many clients at High Schools and Pop Warner on the east valley.

I helped coach a small school called Benson HS for two year. In those two years I coached QBs/WR/DB/S and ended up with an record for 23-4. Were the state runner ups and losing the semifinals. Was over 60 years when Benson HS last played in a championship game. Also coached QBs at Chandler HS and have coaches that help me train all positions. Check out my company on Instagram at a2zsportstraining or website a2zsportstraining.us.

Grew up in a small town near Payson AZ where I learned to play football, baseball, and basketball. My middle school football team won 12 straight games all shutouts, scoring a whopping 46 point or more a game against other schools in Northern Arizona (Show Low, Blue Ridge, etc) . Once I entered the high school level my family and thought it would be best for me to go to a bigger school in the Phoenix Area, so we moved to Ahwatukee where I attended Desert Vista HS.

As a freshman I started out just playing on the defensive side of the ball as a outside linebacker where I averaged over 16 tackles a game, team ended up 9-0 for the season, with 6 shutouts. Sophomore year by game 3 I was the starting QB / OLB and lead my team to another 9-0 season, I average 2 passing and 1 rushing TD a game, with 12 tackles a game. Junior season I ended up pinching a nerve in my neck lifting weights and had to sit out all summer. I made full recovery just in time for the first game but only play Free Safely most of the season, where I was 2nd on the team for total tackles behind All American Zach Miller. Going into my senior year I was highly recruited as a FS / ATH, I was named preseason All State FS but my heart was always to be the QB at the next level. After the first 3 games my I was the leading rusher in 5A as a QB and beat the #2 and #5 ranked teams in the state and losing to #1 team. We had a very tough schedule and after a few key injuries, we ended up 5-5 and #17 in the power rankings just missing the playoffs. 8 of the 10 teams we played that year made the playoffs and we even beat the team that got runner up that season. After the season us up I didn't put up the stats that I personally should have.

I still ended up with FS offers from Oregon, Nevada, San Diego St, New Mexico, BYU and other small schools. For QB I only got one and that was West Point (Army), great school and opportunity so I took the offer and played QB for coach Bobby Ross.

Once getting to West Point and learning from these great coaches I realized I wanted to teach young men how to play this great game. If I would have known half of what I learned at West Point in High School, the sky would have been the limit. As a freshman I was third string QB and traveled with the team, going into my sophomore year I was competing for the starting QB job until I lost my uncle and grandpa within a week of each other and couldn't come home to my family. So I decided West Point wasn't for me and ended up finishing out my freshman year and transferring to Northern Arizona.

I red shirted my first year there to learn the offense and get ahead in my school work. For the next two years I was the back up QB while playing other positions time to time (FS, WR, RB) and started on most special teams.

Depends on the clients needs and position each session is an hour long unless stated other-wise by myself. Here are some examples I focus on and different types of sessions;

Every athlete learns at different speeds, some drills my be easier for one athlete and harder for another to master. That's why 1 on 1 instruction is so important to focus on that individuals needs and to set up a customized game plan to help that player reach their highest potential in their specific position(s). Sessions typically run for about an hour or a little over.

Speed development and enhancement is a careful balance and combination of strength training, sport training, skill training, and speed training. Limitations in any of these areas can hinder the athlete's ability to improve their speed. Example leg and core strength are essential for speed. The goal, focus, and direction are to enhance each individual's speed, quickness, agility, and body control relative to position they play. Linear speed is important, but the ability to change direction is quite possibly more important than flat out speed. Here we will improve individual's running technique, speed, acceleration, agility, first step quickness, balance, flexibility, coordination, power, drive, explosive starts and reaction to game stimulus.

Develop an objective based goal program with specific conditioning programs for the athlete. Strength and Conditioning Programs are designed to; increase work capacity in all aspects of physical training, strength and power, speed and agility, physical endurance and functional flexibility. Develop a work ethic in terms of physical preparation and recognized as a leader in the field

Been so great for my son. Looking forward to many more sessions.

Everything from the communication to the training went perfect.

My son just started high school workouts where he was in competition against 10 others players all going for QB. I'm so glad he has been able to work with coach Pete. because it was very clear who had specialized coaching vs who didnt. It's now down to 2 QBs my son and 1 other, and from what I've seen will end up being qb1. The other kids that were out there were good, but not polished...coach Pete will give your kid the edge he/she needs to stand out on any team. Dont scroll by this coach, I highly recommend him, so much my son will continue working with him as long as possible throughout his career.

Coach Pete was amazing. My 14 year old son asked for coaching sessions for his birthday. Right out of the gate Coach Pete gave him practical skills to improve his game.

Good coach for any adult

High energy, positive attitude and very knowledgeable...

I was very impressed with Coach Hargis. He knows his stuff. He has what it takes to build a well-rounded QB. Great with kids.

Our son had a blast and we look forward to many more sessions!

Coach Pete was great in the virtual session with my 13 year old son. He worked with him on foot drills and throwing technique. It's a challenge working with kids virtually, but a necessity during Covid. Coach Pete made the best of it and I would recommend him for this age group.

Coach Pete is very positive, informed and is passionate about the sport. My son definitely benefited from his experience and his energy from his first session. I recommend him for any student, especially young teens.

My kids love him

Coach Pete is awesome. My son really enjoyed the workout. Coach is very welcoming and has a lot of energy which I prefer. I am a teacher, watching coach Hargis you can tell that not only does he understand the drills, but he can break them down and teach them to all levels of athletes. He teaches the athletes not only how to do it, but also why you do it. If you are looking for someone who can help take your athlete to another level physically and mentally, I highly recommend coach Hargis.

I have 2 boys (17yrs and 14yrs) who have been playing football since they were small. After their first session both boys said Coach Pete found muscles they didn't know they had! Lol
He gave them more information in a few sessions than a normal peewee or highschool coach has given over the years! I wish we found him sooner!

Coach Pete was great, he took the time to explain certain aspects of game to my son. Which gave him more confidence as he better understands his position. My son cant wait for the next lesson.

Our first sessions was great even with the rain coming down we still got in some good work. Coach Pete was very detailed in his instructions which helped my son understand the importance of the little things and how to work on getting better.. Awesome session!!! We are excited and pumped up for the next session!!

First time using Coach Up and it was a great experience. Coach Pete exceeded our expectations. My son really liked Coach Pete and appreciated his knowledge of football. We highly recommend Coach Pete.

Super nice and extremely helpful. Could see my problem areas a mile away and started training them. Saw amazing improvements already! I will be training multiple times a week with Pete.

Coach Pete (Zachary) was great! He was able to determine right away the goals my son needed to work and improve on. He started with the basics and explained things in a way that made it easy for him to understand. Coach Pete is incredibly knowledgeable of the game and uses that to teach the skills to make my son successful. Thanks Coach!

Our son Michael had nothing but, great things to say about Coach Pete and their first session. Pete is very knowledgeable and gave specific drills to our son to help him on his journey of progressing with his love of playing football. Pete provided our son Michael detailed instructions during their session to which our son was able to understand. Coach Pete takes the time to breakdown the drills and went out of his way to also go over some drills with my husband to continue with training our son at home. We will definitely be scheduling more sessions with him for our son in the upcoming weeks and further more in the future.

Coach Zachary is an amazing coach and I am seeing improvement in my son already. He really takes the time to breakdown the drills and teach me as well so that I can continue with training at home.

Was able to adapt and build a program on the fly to get more for each session. Able to pickup flaws and correct during session.

Great coach. Kids loved working with him and I felt he got them excited to be back on the field. This was their first "unofficial" practice week of the season following participation in other sports and I was impressed with how much he kept them engaged and was able to evolve during the workout to focus on areas where they needed more work. It's never easy working with little ones but he was able to engage the little 9 year old just as effectively as the 17 year old.

I hired Pete to train my 13 year old son who has an interest in playing high school football as a receiver and corner back. I have been very impressed with Pete’s knowledge of the game, the various positions, and what it takes to be successful at the high school and college level. Pete provides my son detailed instruction that will be very useful to him as he prepares for his freshman season. Pete has an engaging coaching style that makes it comfortable for kids to ask questions and learn from their mistakes. Pete is very responsive and flexible in scheduling sessions. I would highly recommend him to any kid looking to prepare for a high school football career.

He was awesome and taught my son in a way he understands.

Coach Pete is very knowledgeable. He gave me specific drills to work with my son to help him progress. We will definitely be working with him in the future.

My son Logan had his first lesson with Coach Pete last night (on a Holiday!). He immediately identified areas of opportunity for Logan and began the process of giving him the tools to fix those areas. I think that Logan learned more in that 1 hour session than he has in the last year of team training! Pete even spent another 20 minutes talking to us after the session to ensure we both had all our questions answered. We will be working with Pete going forward throughout his High School Career and beyond! The best part of the entire session was my son beaming over at me in the truck and telling me that this was the right place for him to be to accomplish his athletic goals!

Coach Pete did a great job on our first day of training. He was very thorough and made the session fun for my son. My son is already eager for his next session. Thanks coach Pete for the positive experience.

Coach Pete is a wealth of knowledge! My son had no football experience and is learning to play quarterback. Coach has been able to fine tune his technique and teach him the game more quickly than I thought possible. He is patient, encouraging, engaging and has a clear passion for the sport. I would highly recommend him!

Coach Pete has been great. I was amazed at the amount of coaching that takes place in just an hour's time. He is very clear in his instructions and takes the time to evaluate and implement corrections to technique. I look forward to continuing to have coach Pete work with my son.

Coach Pete is great - great communication - he is knowledgeable and patient and does a great job of explaining the drills and details of what is needed for my son to get better. I know he will help my son improve his QB play. I was so happy with our first time together, I booked our second session before he left.

After three training sessions, my son who was playing very scared is making tackles he would have never attempted before. Coach Pete is amazing and does more than just teach great techniques for football, he helps players build confidence and self esteem - we are so lucky to have found Coach Pete!! Highly recommended!

Super helpful in helping my son teach his goals!

Coach Pete was awesome. It was my sons first time going to see him. He showed him a lot. We definitely will be seeing him again!!

My young son who is a novice to football had a great first workout with Coach Pete. He went over routes and terminology and I know if my son stays dedicated, he will have a deeper understanding of the game under Coach Pete's tutelage.

Coach Pete has been great. He sets measurable goals and sends the kids with home with unique ways to practice. He builds both confidence and skill, glad we found him.

Just had a first session for my son with Coach Pete. Pete is very knowledgeable and extremely approachable. He immediately identified my son's level of ability and began introducing him to the techniques that would help him improve as a quarterback. Looking forward to the next session.

Coach Zachary is a great coach. He is incredible and dedicated coach. He has a great knowledge backed up with amazing technical training.

Great first session with Coach Pete. He was very patient with my son, and did a great job of explaining what he was doing and why. I look forward to our future sessions.

Coach Pete is awesome! He understands the different positions and how to teach them. My son has taken his skill set to the next level since starting training. The time talking and working with Coach Pete has not only been beneficial in sharpening my son's skills but I have also seen a boost in confidence as well. So glad we found him.

Coach Pete is a great coach, great techniques, great ideas and definitely should work with him

I signed my JV QB son up with Coach Pete and we both loved him after just one session. He explains why each thing he teaches is important and saw the skills my son already had, and worked to tweak those skills to make him a better, faster player. We highly recommend Coach Pete for your QB!

Excellent coach and he made my fun feel good with his ability to play football. Took his time with my son.

Coach Pete has helped make a difference in my 10yr old sons quarterback skills. Examples include his footwork, throwing motion and his ability roll out and throw down field. He's only had 3 sessions so far but will definitely continue to train with him in the off season. I would certainly recommend him for improving your child's football skills.

Coach Zachary is not only good at the fundamentals, but also takes the time to explain how the techniques fit into the big picture. We were very happy with our session.

Coach Pete (Zachary) has been really great with our Son. He pushes him to his limits while keeping his safety in mind. He makes the sessions fun for him as well. I highly recommend Coach Pete! We've already seen a difference after 3 sessions!

Coach Hargis will develop aspiring QB's in all aspects of the position. Passing, handoffs, shotgun, rolling out etc. Proper footwork and mechanics are emphasized in each session and progress will be notable not only at training, but also at your player's team practices and games.

He is an outstanding coach. He made 2 small changes to my son's mechanics in the first 10 minutes, and I saw an immediate improvement in his throws. He definitely knows what he is doing.

Zach is phenomenal quarterback skills coach who knows how to teach. More than that he teaches them life skills.

My son had his first session with Coach Zachary and he loved it! He is only 8 but I haven't seen him this excited to practice and do the drills he was shown ever. Coach Zachary is truly professional but I also like how he talked to my son about doing great in school and being a leader on and off the field. It's great to have someone other than myself installing these values.

My son just had his first session with Coach Zach and it was a huge help. Zach knows his stuff and works on the mechanics first and foremost. We'll be booking future sessions.

Coach Zachary was very knowledgable and showed up with drills identified and ready to start. He discussed the basics that my son needed and we progressed through many techniques and drills that helped out a lot. A very good quarterback coaching session. Thanks!

Coach Zach has done a great job with my boys teaching them the fundamentals of the game. He relates well to my kids and they listen to him when they don't listen to their own dad. I have seen a marked improvement in my 12 year old after a short period of time and a willingness to learn more. I'm trying to convince our head coach to have him come out and tutor the whole team during a practice or two.

Coach Hargis has tremendous coaching skills and his one on one work with my teenage son has improved his quarterback skillstremendously. He adapts his weekly training based on skills needed for my son but also offers consistent training techniques. Coach Hargis skill level shows in his excellent coaching. My son also considers him a mentor. I would highly recoomend coach Hargis

Coach Zachary, has been extremely helpful in developing my son Eric Football skills... I strongly recommend Coach Zachary to anyone interested in learning the game of football.
