More About Coach Travis

I have been coaching high school track and field athletes for five years now. During this time, I have coached football and basketball athletes to help them with their speed, conditioning, and flexibility. My expertise as a track is in sprints and hurdles. Most recently, the Boys of Henley High took 2nd as a team in the 4A Oregon State meet. The boys took 1st in 4A state 4x400m, 6th in the 300 Hurdles, 7th in the 400m, and 8th in the 200m. I am the assistant head coach for sprints and head coach for the hurdles. I have coached eight athletes in the Oregon 4A state track meet, and seven were in the top 8 in the state. During my time coaching basketball athletes, I've helped their team plan for the 4A state final basketball tournament. Due to unfortunate circumstances, the season was canceled the day before the playoffs. I am best at taking any athlete and making them faster, strong, and better after working with me, no matter where they are when they first start training.

Each session is structured, organized, and based on the athlete’s age, event, current skill level, and goals.

A typical session may include:

1. Athlete Check-In & Goal Review
We start by reviewing the athlete’s goals, current season, event focus, and anything the parent or athlete wants me to look at.

2. Dynamic Warm-Up & Movement Prep
Athletes go through a proper warm-up focused on mobility, sprint posture, coordination, activation, and injury-prevention habits.

3. Sprint Mechanics / Hurdle Technique
The main part of the session focuses on the athlete’s specific needs. This may include acceleration mechanics, top-end speed, arm action, posture, foot strike, starts, sprint rhythm, hurdle mobility, hurdle rhythm, takeoff mechanics, and technical correction.

4. Event-Specific Training
Depending on the athlete’s event, we may work on 100m, 200m, 400m, 100H/110H, 300H/400H, speed endurance, race modeling, or sport-specific speed for football, basketball, soccer, and other field sports.

5. Conditioning or Performance Development
When appropriate, we add controlled conditioning, tempo work, strength-based movement, plyometrics, or speed endurance work. The goal is to build performance without overtraining the athlete.

6. Cool Down & Parent Feedback
At the end of the session, I review what the athlete did well, what needs improvement, and what they should focus on next. Parents can expect clear feedback and next steps after the session.

My goal is for every athlete to leave the session with better technique, more confidence, and a clear understanding of how to keep improving.

Client Reviews

My son absolutely loved working with Coach Travis and had some a-ha moments during the training sessions. After only one session he got a PR in his next hurdles race. Coach Travis is very communicative and kind and we highly recommend him.

Prior to session with Coach Travis my 12 year old son, who just started track, complained I signed him up as he did not see the point of getting coached to run. By the end of the session he was asking me when he can work with Travis again. "He's fun, but he really pushes me." As a parent I really appreciate Travs' attention to detail, his thoroughness in planning and his ability to connect to the kids as individuals, meeting them at whatever level they are at. Could not have asked for a better coach to guide my son!

Fantastic coach. He worked well with my son. Very knowledgeable and encouraging.

First session but Coach Travis was very nice to work with. My sons looking forward to learning from him

It’s wonderful working with coach on schedule and my son planning.

Coach Travis is doing an amazing job helping my 6th grader learn hurdles. He is positive and provides great feedback to his students. My son had no previous track experience and has improved so much after just 2 sessions.

I learned more from Coach Travis in three sessions than I learned from participating in three years of track in junior high. I know I can take the techniques and skills I learned from him to improve how I start races and my speed on the track this year. Coach Travis also taught me exercises to work on my strength and flexibility. I had to work hard in my sessions, but it was also fun! Athlete

Not only did Coach Travis provide excellent coaching for my daughter, but he also provided me tips about better spikes for speed and equipment she can use for training/strengthening. He is friendly, personable and encouraging with the athlete and is genuinely invested in wanting them to succeed whether he works with them just a few times (like us since we live a long distance away) or many times. I highly recommend him as a coach.

My daughter had multiple sessions with Coach Travis. We saw improvement right away. He is a great coach!

Great Coach, very knowledgeable about hurdles and good with the kids, due to his background in education.

Travis is knowledgeable, engaging, and absolutely someone I would recommend if you have an aspiring track star. My son loved the session and came away better for the time and armed with knowledge to take him further.

I found his rates very reasonable given the experience and knowledge he brought and could not be more grateful for the time!!

Amazing pointers on form and building duration! Attentive and easy to talk to

He's absolutely excellent! He knows his stuff and our son really reacts to his coaching technique.

Sara’s session with Coach Travis boosted her confidence in her ability and has motivated her to put the work in to compete at the next level. His approach with her was intuitive with the perfect combination of acknowledgement and understanding of her slight step backwards, encouragement/praise, challenge/push for her to do what she is capable of doing and ending on a win! You can tell that he has the experience to back everything he shared/taught Sara.

Awesome coach, very knowledgeable on sprints, running technique and hurdles, Travis is positive and encouraging, he takes time to demonstrate proper form and makes sure the athlete understands the drills and concepts he is teaching. If you are considering booking with Travis, don't hesitate, he knows what he's doing!

All around great coach!

Perfect for speed and endurance, I’ve never improved as fast and as much as I did before doing this
Travis is probably the best coach you will ever have. He focuses on technique and specific workouts to strengthen different areas of performance rather than just working you into shape. He cares for everyone and is truly changing lives.
