More About Coach Sam

Coaching Experience

I have 10 years of experience in performance coaching, working with athletes across a wide range of sports and competitive levels. My areas of expertise include strength and conditioning, Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, and sports nutrition.
My experience includes working with scholastic athletes in football, volleyball, soccer, swimming, and baseball, as well as endurance athletes competing in marathons and triathlons. I have also worked with athletes returning to training through post-rehabilitation performance programs, helping them safely rebuild strength, movement quality, and athletic capacity.

My professional certifications and qualifications include:

- NASM Certified Personal Trainer
- NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist
- NASM Sports Nutrition Specialist
- Precision Nutrition Coach
- USA Weightlifting Level 1
- USA Powerlifting Club Coach

My coaching philosophy centers on developing well-rounded athletes through evidence-based training, individualized programming, and progressive development of strength, power, speed, movement quality, and conditioning.

One of my key coaching accomplishments was leading a competitive powerlifting team, helping develop athletes who went on to earn multiple awards and state records.

I have competed in powerlifting at both the Collegiate and Open levels of the USA Powerlifting (USAPL), competing in the 105 kg and 110 kg weight classes. Throughout my competitive career, I have earned multiple 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishes in competition.

I continue to compete in the Open Division, bringing my experience as an active competitive athlete into my approach to coaching and athletic performance.

Session Plan

Every session begins with a brief readiness intake to assess how the athlete is feeling and performing that day. From there, we tailor the session to their current needs while following a structured progression.

We begin with the day's warm-up, which may include conditioning, mobility, movement preparation, and activation work. Depending on the athlete and the day's goals, we then incorporate speed, agility, and reactive drills to prepare the nervous system and reinforce athletic movement.

Next, we move into the performance section, focusing on skills such as speed, power, explosiveness, change of direction, jumping, throwing, or other sport-specific qualities.

The strength section follows, where we develop the foundational strength and physical qualities needed to support long-term athletic performance. Exercises and loading are adjusted based on the athlete's experience, goals, and readiness.

We finish with core and conditioning work, followed by a cool-down to bring the session to a close and support recovery.

The goal of every session is to provide a purposeful progression from preparation, to performance, to strength, and finally recovery, while adjusting the training to the individual athlete.
