More About Coach Phil
I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction (CSCS*D) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). This is the premier governing body in the fitness industry that certifies the overwhelming majority of strength and conditioning coaches in the NCAA and the NFL. The NSCA appointed me to be the NSCA Maryland State Director.
I have eleven years of high school football coaching experience in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. I have coached all offensive skill positions and have been a head strength and conditioning coach. I have also coached defensive positions through my private business. My coaching stops have included West Springfield High School (Springfield, VA), Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (Alexandria, VA), Northwood High School (Silver Spring, MD), James Hubert Blake High School (Silver Spring, MD), Gilman School (Baltimore, MD) where we were the 2017 State Runners Up in the MIAA A Conference, and currently Calvert Hall College High School (Baltimore, MD) where we were the 2018 State Champions in the Maryland Christian Schools Invitational.
I have been the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Mariner Swim Club, a highly competitive club swim team for girls and boys ages 6-18 based out of the Gilman School.
I conduct sessions for athletic performance, football skills development for all positions, and women's fitness. In the realm of athletic performance, I specialize in football skills, but principles of speed, agility, and strength training can be effortlessly adapted for any sport. As such, I have successfully trained male and female youth, high school, and collegiate athletes competing in baseball, hockey, lacrosse, swimming, and track & field. I also provide personal training for the general population looking to improve physique and have knowledge and practical experiences that address the needs of the female adult population.
I played college football for Baylor University. I played running back. I lettered in the sport, won Baylor Football's Highest GPA Award, made the Big XII Commissioner's Honor Roll, earned 1st Team Academic All-Big XII honors, and was a Prentice Gautt Post-Graduate Scholarship Award winner. I earned a B.A. in political science with a minor in economics in December of 2004 at the age of 20 and I earned an M.S.Ed in sport management in May of 2006 at the age of 22. I hold a law degree (J.D.) from Syracuse University, which I earned in December of 2008 at the age of 24.
Sessions are individually tailored and appropriate to age and gender. Clients will be challenged to reach new heights in athletic performance and personal fitness in a safe, positive, and professional environment.
