More About Coach Peter

With more than 11 years of coaching experience, I have helped athletes of all ages and abilities achieve their goals—from youth beginners to elite competitors. I have coached state champions, regional and national qualifiers, All-Americans, and collegiate athletes, including two who went on to compete for the University of Oregon.

My coaching experience includes serving as a volunteer assistant coach at Morehead State University (NCAA Division I), Head Coach of Emerald Valley Track Club and Spencer Butte Middle School, Co-Founder and Head Coach of Amazon Distance Project, and Vice President of Cascadia Elite. I currently serve as the Head Cross Country and Distance Coach at Churchill High School in Eugene, Oregon.

I have coached athletes from the 400m through the marathon and have been fortunate to work with competitors at every level of the sport. I coached Susan Ejore, a Kenyan Olympian and World Championships finalist who placed 5th in the world in the 1500m. I currently coach Jenn Randall, a 4:25 miler, four-time USA Championship qualifier, and Olympic Trials semifinalist in the 1500m and 5000m.

My coaching philosophy centers on individualized training, long-term athlete development, and building confidence through consistent, purposeful training. Whether an athlete is pursuing a personal best, a state championship, a college opportunity, or elite-level competition, my goal is to help them maximize their potential and enjoy the process.

Each session begins with a check-in to discuss how you're feeling, assess your recovery, and address any injury concerns or training-related questions. We'll review the goals and structure of the day's workout so you understand the purpose behind each component of the session.

From there, I will guide you through a dynamic warm-up designed specifically for runners, whether your focus is sprinting, middle-distance, distance running, or road racing. Proper preparation is a key part of performance and injury prevention, so our warm-up will include running drills, mobility exercises, and resistance band work to activate the muscles used during training.

The main workout will be tailored to your individual goals, experience level, and current fitness. Depending on where you are in your training progression, sessions may include easy aerobic running, tempo runs, interval training, repetitions, speed development, or a combination of these elements. Every workout is customized to meet you where you are and help you progress safely and effectively.

We will finish each session with bodyweight strength training, core work, and injury-prevention exercises designed to support long-term development and improve running performance.
