More About Coach Paul

After a year long (1998-1999) Hatha Yoga Teacher Training Course at Yoga East in Louisville, KY, I became certified as a Hatha Yoga Instructor at the 200 hour Level, and with additional training, became certified as a 500 hour, Level 2 Instructor. I have since practiced yoga for 19 years and have taught for 8 of those years. I have taught many styles and all ages and abilities of students. Yoga asana is accessible to all if one has the desire to practice and has a competent and understanding teacher. The basics of breath, alignment and awareness can be learned by each and everyone; however, the approach may be different from one student to the next. By the ability of the teacher, the use of props and the poses chosen, one can garner the wonderful and life changing benefits of yoga. Yoga is an outer expression of an inner journey that leads one to the core of their Being. This underlying reality, which resides equally in all of us, does not have to be attained--it just has to be uncovered. Yoga helps peel away the layers that cover our natural Self. Perhaps most of us do not come to yoga with such lofty ideals. Rather we come to heal an injury, or to become more relaxed, or to become more patient, or more flexible, or just for a new experience. It makes no difference why you come to yoga, if you do your part yoga will take care of the rest. As the late world-renowned Master Ashtanga teacher Pattabhi Jois said " Do your practice and all is coming."
May we share a life changing yogic journey together.

I have practised yoga since 1998 where I began teacher training with my esteemed teacher, Laura Spaulding, at Yoga East studio in Louisville, Kentucky. Her vast knowledge of yoga and it's ancient texts and scriptures have formed the foundation of my yogic journey. To the benefit of all the Yoga East teachers and students, Laura brought in many great teachers for our continued study. I have been exposed to and practiced many styles of yoga as this following list of teachers will attest: Rodney Yee, John Friend, Doug Keller, Francious Raoul, Ramanand Patel, Sianna Sherman, Doug Swenson, and Judy Rice. All of these teachers have their early roots based in the teachings of the great master B. K. S. Iyengar. I have also studied with David Swenson, Sharath Jois, and his grandfather the great master teacher of Ashtanga Yoga, Pattabhi Jois. I have been very fortunate to have been in the presence of such knowledgeable, respected and reveered teachers, and I bring their teachings into my daily practices.

My yoga session with Paul was excellent. He was able to explain how to get into yoga poses in a way that was safe for me such as by using props or perhaps not trying to go as deep into a pose. He paced the session well and included warm ups, breathing, and a really nice relaxation at the end. His knowledge of yoga was evident by the way he answered my questions and in the information he gave as he taught how to get into the poses. I went away feeling great in both mind and body--relaxed and confident in my ability to improve in yoga as I continue to practice it. I slept like a baby that night and my body felt great the next day. Paul had a really nice, relaxed way of teaching--soft-spoken and kind. I would recommend him as a teacher.
Paul was my first yoga teacher. He introduced me to the Ashtanga yoga practice and I immediately fell in love with it. I couldn't have asked for a better teacher as he was patient and also demonstrated the proper alignment to ensure we did our poses correctly. He showed us the holistic way to meditate to experience the marriage of body and spirit. I encourage anyone to try yoga as it will completely change your life. Namaste.
