More About Coach Neil

Technique is key with the throwing events. I have a technical eye and have coached high school athletes to the State Meet, multiple PRs, and school records. I have also had the opportunity to coach college athletes to the NAIA Track and Field Championship Finals. Throughout my 15yrs of throwing I continued to gain knowledge about throwing technique and training. I have been certified through USATF, USAW, John Godina World Throws Center, and NAIA Coaches of Character.

I started throwing my senior year in high school. That year I placed 5th at the state meet and was offered a scholarship at Cedarville University. During my years at Cedarville I qualified in three events, a total of 12 times for the NAIA Championships. In 2007 I was ranked #1 in shot put going into the NAIA Indoor National Championships. I have been the American Mideast Conference Champion, record holder in the hammer throw, and Outstanding Field Performer of the meet in 2008.

I have broken the shot put record, indoor weight throw, and hammer throw record at Cedarville University (still hold the weight throw and hammer record). I have a technical eye and have helped multiple athletes qualify and place at the NAIA Championships, break school records, and gain new personal bests. I have been coached, trained and competed with olympians and top level athletes, gaining more knowledge of top training techniques.

When meeting with a client I get to know a little bit about them. What are your goals and wants from the training? Once I get an idea of what you would like to accomplish I can start a plan. I like to start with basics and build from there. We will work on technique by performing technique driven drills to help achieve goals.

Client Reviews

Coach Neil has already helped me so much after just one session! He focused on the fundamentals and broke down what I can do to strengthen my technical skills. I'm already excited about my next session and working with him this season!

Coach Neil was great to work with, had great tips and exercises for my daughter to improve her discus. Had her using a full rotation in just one session.

Coach Neil did a great job with my son. He diagnosed a few issues he had and quickly went to work showing him how to break some bad habits he has been shown in the past. Now it’s up to him to put in the work. Great guy and definitely recommend him to anyone for coaching.

Coach Neil helped my son, Hunter, tremendously with discus! I wish we had found him when Hunter was a freshman. Hunter's technique and distance improved greatly even after just a single session. He was throwing new PRs weekly. Highly recommend Coach Neil!!

Coach Neil was amazing with my daughter. He was so patient with her. He held her accountable and had her repeating the motion until she got the correct form. Highly recommend Coach Neil for all of your throwing coaching.

Coach Neil did a great job with my daughter today. He is breaking down technique in a way that makes sense to her. He gave real time feedback and provided some “homework” to keep up with what was learned today. We are excited to return!

My daughter has worked with Coach Neil over the past three weeks, and we have already seen a noticeable difference. He is kind, patient, and has an excellent coaching/teaching style. My daughter is looking forward to continuing to work with him!

We have worked with Coach Neil for about 6 hours so far, and he's been great. My son enjoys learning how to throw the shot and disc, and Coach Neil does a great job of working with him. We drive about 2 hours round-trip, and my son and I both feel it's well worth it. We will surely be continuing our training.

My son was/is an 11 year old beginner with no throws background and Coach Neil has kindly, patiently, and expertly started him on the basics while giving us things to work on, on our own.
Coach Neil has my highest recommendation.

Although it's a little bit of a drive, it's well worth spending time with Coach Neil. He's very patient and has the knowledge to break down the various techniques necessary to master your throw. He's flexible with scheduling and professional. Our daughter has a great deal of respect for the method Coach uses to improve.

Great coach! Worked well with both boys and taught them a lot! Very pleased.

Coach Neil showed me some drills that I can tell have already improved my form and technique. Can't wait to continue the training.

Coach Neil, is a great instructor and he knew exactly how to develop my technique. I recommend he to any athlete. Savannah Parrish

Coach Neil is awesome! He is technically competent, has a prepared training plan and is great with the kids. Highly recommend!

Coach Henning was my track coach at Cedarville University for 4 years. His coaching helped me make marked improvements in shotput, discus, hammer and weight. He did a great job of breaking down the throws and helping me succeed in all four events. He made sure to give individual attention to his athletes and customized his advice to each thrower. In addition, Coach Henning made sure we had fun and enjoyed practice. He always wanted us to succeed and continue to improve. Neil was a great coach and he helped me find success at the collegiate level. No matter what event, he can tailor a program for you that helps you become a better thrower!
As an athlete, I appreciated a coach like Neil Henning. His method of coaching makes the sport enjoyable. He pushes people to do their best while able to look at the big picture. His enthusiasm is contagious and he is the type of coach that at the end of the day, you would want to make him proud. I highly recommend Coach Neil for any level of competition.
As a decathlete I didn't have much of a background in throws. Coach Henning took me from being a total novice to a confident thrower in the ring. He did an awesome job explaining what to do and why I needed to do it. I'd definitely recommend him as a coach to throwers of all levels.
Coach Henning is a phenomenal throws coach that focuses on the small details to produce big throws! When I started under him I had been through 2 coaches and to adjust to Coach Henning was easy and effective. He worked with my throwing style and tweaked it when needed. The core of Coach Henning's work is drills! I have taken what I have learned from him and have used it in my own coaching routine and have seen results time after time. I am thankful for the ability to be a school record holder in shot put and a discus All-American under Coach Henning at Cedarville University. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to start throwing or for the advanced thrower that wants to go to the next level!!
Coach Henning was a very strong throws athlete for us during his four years at Cedarville University. He was especially skilled in the weight throw, shot put, and hammer. Neil also threw the discus while at CU. He showed great improvement in his four years and worked hard to get better. He also earned many athletic honors for his accomplishments in track & field. He coached at CU for several years after graduating and did an excellent job coaching our throws athletes to many personal bests and championship berths.
