More About Coach Mwangi

I am a USATF-Certified Running Coach, high school track coach and former Division 1 collegiate athlete. My passion for the sport also led me to start private coaching and I've coached a number of runners to their personal best times in races from the mile all the way to the full marathon. I am a versatile coach, who understands training from multiple perspectives, both on the track and on the road.

Captain of my high school track & field team, all-class & all-state runner, D1 athlete at Brown University. Post-collegiate competitive mile (4:20) to 5K (15:59) runner, who has also run a number of half marathons and 3 full marathons including the Boston Marathon.

I look at running training in phases, each of them equally important and fundamental to running.

The warm-up phase encourages the appropriate muscle and joint reaction to running. I like to start with dynamic stretching to achieve this goal.

The workout phase can be a variety of different things, depending on my client's goals but I generally start with a warm-up run and some pre-workout strides.

The cool-down phase happens immediately after the workout and is usually a combination of a short, easy run and some static stretching.

Client Reviews

Working with Coach Mwangi has been extremely valuable for my training so far. His expertise and years of coaching experience have given me the confidence to keep running through minor injuries without needing to take time off or worsen things. I trust that he can help me reach (and exceed) my goals! His approach to coaching is meticulous and personalized, and it's clear he wants to help you succeed however he can. He is super responsive to questions and keeps track of your training and any ongoing issues very closely––nothing will slip through the cracks when working with him. Thanks Coach!

Coach Mwangi is an awesome coach. Within one session he fine-tuned my stride. He can do it all, from diagnosing problem areas to designing a routine. He has a great deal of knowledge and has such a wholesome approach. He takes the time to get to know what your goals are and talks through any questions or concerns you may have. Overall, Mwangi has such a great demeanor and I highly recommend him!

In the words of my 15yr old, Coach is 5 stars, best he’s ever had, highly recommend and would like to use again. In my words, Coach was fantastic! He was accommodating and listened to what my son’s goals were and tailored his sessions toward those goals. We plan to book additional sessions in between seasons to solidify what he’s learned so far. Highly recommended!

A true professional with an abundance of the type of running knowledge / talent that you want to guide your kids! My son is an eighth grader and was looking for someone who could help him with technique while becoming a stronger XC runner. Mwangi is articulate, intelligent, and fun. Most of all my son LOVES working with him. You can't find a better coach anywhere in the country!!

Great coach learned a lot in just one session.. Glad we met!

Coach Mwangi is the best! I've been training with him for just under two months preparing for my first half marathon. In this short amount of time he has given me so much more confidence and knowledge as a runner. Whether we are doing a track workout or running hills on the East Side of Providence he continually pushes me and brings me to the next level. If you are looking to train for a race or develop and progress your running skills, Coach Mwangi is absolutely your best option to get you where you want to be.

Coach Mwangi is just what my children needed. He put together a plan for their running, coached them on both fitness and nutrition, and was exceptionally motivating and supportive to their questions. My children feel honored to be working with him.
My children just ran their first high school cross country meet last week. Since his training session and plan, my daughter placed 1st in a field of about 40 girls, and and my son 4th in a field of about 60 boys.
Coach Mwangi is not only skilled in the direction he gives, but motivates my children through his own accomplishments. He walks the walk; that is, he is an avid competitor and regularly wins his own pre-professional races of all different distances. It's nice for my children to be working with someone that they can look up to as an example of a great athlete.
