More About Coach Mia

My coaching career began with 3 years as a personal trainer in Waverly, IA. I built programming yeilding strength gains and weight loss. Next I transitioned into gymnastics coaching, where I diversified my coaches eye to understand more total body movements and the muscular strength required. In the past 5 years I have coached many athletes in their off seasons, helping them build strength and coordination. I have also been an assistant coach to the track and field program at De Anza College, assistant track and field coach at The Harker School, and Head Cross Country Coach at The Harker School.

I can coach almost any track athlete in their chosen event, with the exception of Pole Vault. My expertise lie in Hurdles, jumps events, sprints, and the Multi-event.

I competed collegiately for 4 years at Wartburg College as a part of the nationally awarded women's track and field program. I competed as a jumper and sprinter for the team. I was also a hurdler and have a bit of experience with throwing as well. I was a part of the 2014 Drake Relay 4x200 relay for the team as well as the Shuttle hurdle relay. I was able to accomplish a two time champion title for the indoor conference pentathlon for 2013 and 2014.

I take the time to go through any and all exercises that the client appears to struggle with. After going through the workout the next steps depend a lot on the client's goals. If the client's goals is to lose weight and become toned and lean I would structure sessions bases on cardio work as well as getting the basic body weight strength needed to improve mobility and coordination. If the goal is to bulk up we would work more on heavy weight training and learning how to properly lift weights to encourage proper form and limit the risk of injury. Really I look to accommodate the clients need and I keep a forever flexible training plan to scale a session up or down depending on what physical strength the client shows.

Coach Mia is a great coach! My daughter plays softball and was looking for a coach who could help her be more explosive and all around conditioning. Mia is extremely knowledgeable; she analyzed how my daughter runs (her form) and from there made stretching recommendations along with now helping her improve her form and overall conditioning. Mia is very good at designing and communicating on what works best for my daughter; she doesn't cookie cutter and have everyone do the same thing. I have already noticed a difference already in her speed from home-plate to first. I highly recommend Mia if you want to help your kid perform better regardless of the sport they play.

My 12 year old daughter loved working with Coach Mia. My daughter had a specific goal for the track season, and with Coach MIa's help, she was successful. Along the way, Coach Mia taught her conditioning lessons that will also help her with basketball and soccer.

She was great and extremely encouraging!
