More About Coach Katelyn
I have over 3 years of coaching experience with Zephyrs Track Club, where I specialize in hurdles. In addition to club coaching, I’ve also spent the past 2 years volunteering with local high school track and field programs, working closely with student-athletes to develop their technique, speed, and race strategy.
My background as a competitive athlete spans more than 13 years, including club, high school, and collegiate track and field. This firsthand experience allows me to connect with athletes at all levels and provide detailed, technical coaching particularly in hurdling events.
I typically work with middle school and high school athletes, but I’m also comfortable coaching beginner to intermediate level hurdlers. I hold a Level 1 Coaching Certification and am passionate about helping athletes improve their performance while fostering confidence and discipline both on and off the track.
I’m a former competitive hurdler with several records and honors. I currently hold the 100m hurdles record at my middle school and held former high school records in both the 100m and 300m hurdles. I’m a 3x All-State middle school athlete in the 100m hurdles and a 2x All-State high school athlete in the same event along with relays. I also became All-American in club track for the 400m hurdles.
I competed at major meets including New Balance Nationals, University of Arkansas, and Texas A&M, and ran one year at the collegiate level.

My sessions are designed to develop both the physical and mental aspects of hurdling, while also recognizing that every athlete is different. I take the time to get to know each athlete personally understanding their goals, learning style, and motivation because I believe coaching should never be one-size-fits-all.
A typical session includes:
A dynamic warm-up to prep the body and prevent injury
Sprint and hurdle drills to build technique, rhythm, and efficiency (lead leg, trail leg, arm action, starts, etc.)
Event-specific work, such as race rhythm, speed endurance, or hurdle intervals
Mental prep strategies, including visualization, race-day mindset, and confidence building
Recovery techniques like cooldowns, stretching, breathing, and discussions on rest, nutrition, and injury prevention
I also use video analysis to break down technique and give real-time feedback for improvement.
My goal is to create a supportive, focused environment where athletes feel seen, challenged, and equipped to grow not just as competitors, but as individuals.
