More About Coach Jonathan
Since 2013, I have coached both adolescent and adult athletes in strength training & conditioning for cross country, track & field, marathons, obstacle course races, and tactical occupations. My coaching experiences range from high school sports to national military competitive teams. My present certifications include Master Fitness Trainer (MFT) through the Army Physical Fitness School, USA Track & Field Levels 1 and 2 through USATF; And soon I anticipate to be a Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitator through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Highlights of my coaching career include coaching a high school girls' cross country team to a state championship title and coaching an individual 400m runner to a state championship title. My current responsibilities revolve around the US Army's Officer Candidate School (OCS) where I instruct physical training in accordance with the Army's Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) program.
As an undergraduate student, I competed as an NCAA cross country and track & field athlete, where I was named to the all-conference team eight times and received my university's most valuable player award for track & field. Post collegiately, I competed for the National Guard Marathon Team and currently I compete for the National Guard Endurance Team. My respective personal best times for 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 8000m (XC), half-marathon, and marathon are 1:51, 3:57, 15:38, 26:15, 1:20:20, and 3:04:05.
Every training session is broken down into three units: unit one focuses on the preparations of the physical training activity; unit two focuses on the physical training activity itself; and unit three focuses on the recovery from the physical training activity. Sessions range from one and a half hours to two hours in duration. Physical training activities will either train muscular endurance, muscular hypertrophy, or muscular strength. All physical training activities will feature general strength (bodyweight exercises) and power or plyometric exercises.
