More About Coach Johnny

I have coached and developed athletes since 2019. My experience includes working with more than 1,200 athletes ranging from youth players to high school, NCAA, and NFL athletes. I have trained 53 NCAA athletes and 35 NFL players, including NFL All-Pros Jaylon Johnson, Daron Bland, Keisean Nixon and Eddie Jackson.

My background includes defensive back development, football position training, speed and agility, strength and conditioning, NFL Combine preparation, youth and high school football, and national 7-on-7. I also gained collegiate strength and conditioning experience at the University of Utah and worked in NFL Combine performance training at Exos.

I specialize in developing defensive backs through position fundamentals, movement technique, coverage skills, football IQ, film study, preparation, and confidence. I work with athletes beginning at age six and adjust my coaching to fit each athlete’s age, experience, position, and goals. My approach combines high expectations with genuine care. I want athletes to understand why they are performing each drill and how it will help them become better football players.

I was a four-star defensive back and high school All-American before earning a scholarship to play football at UCLA. During my collegiate career, I became a starting defensive back and competed against some of the best players and programs in the country.

Playing defensive back at UCLA gave me firsthand experience with the preparation, technique, discipline, film study, and attention to detail required to compete at the Division I level. I learned multiple defensive concepts, developed against high-level competition, and experienced what it takes to prepare physically and mentally throughout a college football season.

I graduated from UCLA with honors and earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. My playing career continues to shape the way I coach. I understand the demands athletes face, and I use that experience to teach them how to prepare, compete with confidence, respond to coaching, and approach the game with purpose.

Each football session is customized around the athlete’s position, age, experience, and individual needs. I primarily train defensive backs, linebackers, and wide receivers. Every session is designed to improve position-specific technique, athletic movement, football IQ, and confidence.

Sessions begin with a dynamic warmup focused on mobility, coordination, sprint preparation, and injury prevention. We then move into footwork, acceleration, deceleration, change of direction, hip movement, and reaction drills that directly transfer to football.

Defensive backs work on stance and starts, backpedal mechanics, transitions, leverage, press and off-man technique, route recognition, recovery skills, breaking on the football, and ball skills. Linebackers focus on stance, first-step reactions, run reads, block avoidance, pursuit angles, change of direction, open-field movement, zone drops, man coverage, and tackling position without live contact. Wide receivers develop stance and releases, route-running mechanics, changing speed, creating separation, catching technique, body control, and attacking the football.

I introduce each skill by explaining its purpose and connection to game situations. Athletes progress from instruction and walkthrough repetitions to full-speed drills and competitive scenarios. Sessions may conclude with one-on-one competition, reaction drills, conditioning, or position-specific situations based on the athlete’s goals.

At the end of every session, I review what the athlete improved, identify the next area of focus, and provide coaching points to practice independently. My goal is to help athletes become more technically sound, physically prepared, confident, and knowledgeable football players.

Client Reviews

Jason Loscalzo (NFL Strength and Conditioning Coach) (Testimonial)

Every year, the player who train with Coach Johnny Johnson show up to camp a step ahead. They come in already in great shape, moving well, and looking explosive right out of the gate. You can tell the work they've put in with him, his programs prepare them to handle the demands of the season and perform at a high level from day one.

Kyler Gordon - Chicago Bears (Testimonial)

Johnny knows exactly how to get the most out of me. His attention to detail in footwork, explosiveness, and overall conditioning has been a game-changer. He doesn't do the same thing for everyone, he creates a plan that's tailored to me, my position, and my goals. The knowledge and energy he brings every day make it impossible not to get better. That's why I keep coming back, because I know I will be sharper, faster, and more prepared than the guy across from me.
