More About Coach Jim
From young children to elite athletes, I've worked with swimmers of all ages and abilities. My expertise spans age group swimming, high school, collegiate, and triathlon training. I specialize in stroke technique, endurance training, and competitive swimming strategies. Let's work together to elevate your swimming game.
With a diverse background in competitive swimming, water polo, and open water swimming, I've experienced the sport from every angle. From breaking records to coaching champions, I've honed my skills to provide top-notch instruction. Whether you're a beginner or an elite athlete, I can help you improve your technique, speed, and endurance.
I was All American in both high school and NCAA. I was a finalist at NCAA. I was 3rd in the US Open Water Championship. I played water polo through high school thru college and played professionally in Europe. And still train and compete on the masters level.
The first thing to do is to analyze the stroke with an underwater Go-Pro, the idea is not to film while you are rested and concentrating on your stroke and going at a moderate speed, but to film when you are tired and going at full speed. That is where you will see where muscle memory is and work on the stroke technique counts the most. While training is vital to improve both speed and endurance, the correct stroke will improve power and speed with the same effort. It is difficult to gauge the subtleties of a stroke of a stroke (things like pitch and acceleration at full speed and with the naked eyes so we film to see the stroke frame by frame. Then we do drills to improve those imperfection. The sets after will depend on the event a swimmer is training for, pace work for distance swimmers, speed and Lactic Acid tolerance drills for sprinter. Proper technique will improve your performance while training and most importantly allow you to obtain your maximum speed at meets.
For beginners it's vital we keep the lesson fun, and break own the strokes to work on one aspect at a time.
