More About Coach Jeff

I have been training athletes since 2005, when I was an assistant Defensive Backs & Wide Receivers coach for Canyon Country Canyon High School. After graduating college, I coached the Varsity Defensive Backs and was the JV Defensive Coordinator at Agoura Hills High School for 3 seasons. Once I earned my Personal Trainer Certification, I also began working as a strength coach for numerous High School and College athletes in the greater Los Angeles area. During this time I worked as a personal trainer at 24 Hour Fitness. I have lived in San Diego for 2 years now, working as a Personal Trainer in Coronado - where I have continued to work with young athletes.

At Canyon High School I was a 3-year started on Varsity in football playing Wide Receiver, Defensive back, as well as Punter. My Junior and Senior season I was a captain in football, leading the team in Interceptions, and receiving touchdowns. In basketball I was awarded team MVP my freshman year and Best Defensive player my sophomore year. I also ran track in my senior year, finishing 2nd, & 3rd in league in the long jump, and high jump. I went on to play football and rugby in college at California Lutheran University.

All my sessions are according to my client's specific needs. That being said, there is a protocol in which I conduct all training sessions. Begin with a warm-up routine, execute specific drills to get you results, core work, cool down. In some cases, there will be a conditioning period before core work. My goal is to get my clients to increase performance, without risk of injury.

Client Reviews

Coach Jeff is AMAZING! My son is already 100% more confident after 2 training sessions than he has ever been. Coach Jeff is inspiring to him. He is extremely knowledgeable about the game of football and is encouraging my son to become a better player through that knowledge. We are so happy we found him. 5 star coach for sure...no need to look farther!

My weekend with Jeff was, without exaggeration, a life-changing experience. Over the course of a few days, I was taught many things I had not known previously about proper nutrition, dieting, exercise, and proper workout routine/form. ... Jeff's workouts were extremely challenging but ultimately rewarding. I found myself experiencing increases in athleticism and conditioning after continuously practicing the workouts that Jeff showed me. Jeff was very helpful in giving an easy-to-follow workout routine that I practice even months after I worked with him. I also found Jeff to be an extremely like-able person. ... While being a supportive and constructive coach who did not mince words, he was also there as a companion who was really fun to be around.
Jeff is an all around great guy and even better trainer. He takes the time to really get to know each one of his clients and learns their own personal goal so that they can work together toward it. I had trained with Jeff for about two, and each time we trained, I would be learning something new. I started training with Jeff when I was a freshmen in high school and had never stepped foot inside a gym before. He was very patient with me, he made sure I learn the importance of proper lifting form and taking care of my body. As the training went on, I could feel myself getting much stronger and, as a two sport athlete, a dramatic increase in overall stamina on the court. Not only does Jeff want to see all his clients happy and in their best shape, he also wants to help them understand what it takes to stay in shape and the importance of a routine. He strongly urges and teaches proper meal prepping and devoted diets for each of his clients with their own individual goals. The last time I trained with Jeff, he created a work out routine specifically desired for me and a meal plan that would take into consideration the amount of carbs I'd be consuming on a regular day with his regiment. His individual focus on each person he trains is unwavering, he truly does all he can to help you reach your goals. Even with all the hard work that goes into training and working out, at the end of the day Jeff is right there with you, not only as a trainer but as a friend.
My name is Julian Patton, and I am speaking on the behalf of Jeff Shalem. I met Jeff when he became my varsity football coach in the fall of 2009. As a coach Jeff was always one of the most knowledgable, and by far the most motivating individuals I have been around in my 10 years of playing. I then had the privilege of of working with my old coach again in the spring of 2015, as I was coming off of a hip and hip flexor surgery. I was preparing for my final season of college football, and I knew I needed someone who was going to push me to new heights in order to be successful. I began driving down to the San Diego area and working with Jeff for up to a week at time, every day, with at least 3 separate sessions each day (typically a morning lift, footwork/conditioning in the afternoon and stretching/yoga in the evenings). In my time as a player and a coach, I have been fortunate enough to work with colleagues who have had years of Division I and NFL experience. But of all these people I have never met a man more focused on helping people reach their goals. The biggest thing Jeff did for me was absolutely revolutionize the way I eat. He is constantly preaching "eat good feel good" and believe me, he practices what he preaches. He provided me an entire meal plan and I saw visible results in less than a week, and noticed changes in my energy levels almost instantly. My diet was tailored for gaining weight, so it consisted of a plethora of information that I still use as I continue to train. As I come to close, my final endorsement for Jeff is based on the attribute he shares with all great coaches. That is his ability to be perceptive, and impartial. He really listens to his clients to make sure what he is doing is efficient and effective, and he is always open to interpretation. However, when it comes time to work, there is nobody else I would rather have in my corner. Jeff assisted me greatly in my football career, and I know he can do the same for countless individuals if given the chance.
When I first met Jeff, I was coming back from a knee injury. I needed help getting back to where I was before the injury for basketball season. Jeff was really supportive and in three weeks he helped me run faster, jump higher, and get my leg muscles to where they were before the injury. Jeff has been a great friend ever since and he always helps me and supports me on every little goal I have. I would recommend him to an athlete that has a goal in mind, he will get you there!
