More About Coach Joseph "Joe"

I have experience coaching high school basketball, focusing on both skill development and character building. I emphasize discipline, teamwork, and mental resilience to help athletes grow both on and off the court. Additionally, I work on mentoring young athletes through life coaching, helping them navigate challenges such as confidence, leadership, and decision-making.

I coach at the youth level, the Middle High School level, and at the high school level and have experience mentoring youth athletes in both competitive and developmental settings. My approach combines basketball fundamentals with life skills, preparing players for success beyond sports.

I currently coach for Southern Elite Sports and at local schools, and have worked with student-athletes in structured team environments as well as through individual mentorship. My coaching experience extends to working with players outside of formal team settings, helping them improve both their game and personal development.

I primarily coach Middle School and high school athletes (ages 12–18) but also mentor younger kids through life coaching/counseling. My focus is on helping teenagers build confidence, responsibility, and leadership through sports and personal development coaching.

I have my Florida Athletic Coaching Certification as well as my CPR Card. I have my USA Basketball Coaching Certification and I am working on getting my Life Coaching Certification hopefully soon, as well as a Bachelors Degree and a Masters Degree. I continue to pursue professional development to enhance my ability to support young athletes.

Athletic Highlights
• Laporte High School Football/Basketball Team - 4 years played

camp]
• Assist in helping a local recreation team and their travel ball AAU team

In my sessions I combine basketball skill development with mental and personal growth coaching. Below is a structured session plan to give clients a clear idea of what to expect.

Session Plan: What to Expect

Each of my sessions is tailored to the athlete’s skill level and personal goals, blending basketball fundamentals, strength & conditioning, and mental development. A typical 60-90 minute session might include the following:

1. Warm-Up & Activation (10-15 min)
• Dynamic stretching and mobility exercises
• Light ball-handling drills to activate coordination
• Agility ladder or footwork drills for quickness

2. Skill Development (30-40 min)

Focus Areas (based on athlete’s position and needs):
• Ball-Handling: Advanced dribbling techniques, handling pressure, reaction drills
• Shooting Mechanics: Form shooting, catch-and-shoot, off-the-dribble shooting
• Finishing at the Rim: Layup variations, floaters, contact finishes
• Defense: Footwork, lateral movement, closing out, defensive positioning
• Game IQ & Decision-Making: Situational drills, pick-and-roll reads, passing under
pressure

3. Strength & Conditioning (15-20 min)
• Explosive movements (sprints, plyometrics)
• Core strengthening (planks, medicine ball work)
• Basketball-specific endurance training

4. Mental & Leadership Coaching (10-15 min)
• Confidence & Focus: Visualization techniques, overcoming self-doubt
• Leadership & Accountability: Discussing mindset shifts, setting short- and long-term
goals
• Resilience Training: How to handle adversity, staying motivated during setbacks

5. Cool-Down & Review (5-10 min)
• Light stretching and mobility work
• Review of session highlights and key takeaways
• Setting goals for the next session

This is what I hope to be able to accomplish with Coach Up:

Setting My Training Apart from other personal trainers
• Personalized Training Plans: Each session is built around the athlete’s strengths,
weaknesses, and goals.
• Game-Specific Development: Focus on skills that translate directly into in-game
performance.
• Mindset Coaching: Teaching athletes how to stay mentally tough, confident, and
prepared for challenges on and off the court.

Client Reviews

I’ve had the privilege of working with inner-city programs, and I can confidently say that my passion for coaching and mentoring is truly inspiring. With six years of service in the Air Force, I bring a unique perspective of discipline, leadership, and resilience to everything I do. My experiences living across the United States and competing in football and basketball during high school have shaped me into a well-rounded individual who understands the value of teamwork and perseverance. Currently serving as both a counselor and basketball coach, and coaching at a school, I demonstrate an incredible ability to connect with students on a personal level, guiding them not only in sports but also in life. My dedication to fostering growth, both on and off the court, is something that I am extremely thankful for. As someone who still actively plays basketball, I lead by example, showing my players what it means to stay committed to their goals. What sets me apart, is my vision for the future—my dream of coaching at the collegiate level. With my background, work ethic, and unwavering determination, I do not doubt that I will make an extraordinary impact in college athletics. "I am not just a coach, but I am a mentor, a leader, and an inspiration to everyone around me." As I have been told by others, which is why I was lead to start this program. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions any suggestions or if you are just curious about having me coach for you or your kid in the future.
