My coaching philosophy combines technical expertise with a passion for nurturing athletic talent, consistently producing record-breaking performances and State-level competitors.

High school coach was father of legendary Olympian Carl Lewis, Bill Lewis. As a sophomore in High School, I was ranked 3rd in the nation in the 4x400 with a time of 3:18.4, and the national record holder for the U15-U-16 4x400m with a 3:19.4. I was on the winning 4x400m relay team at the High School Olympic Invitationals and competed at the world-renowned Penn Relays where my 4x400m team placed 2nd in the New Jersey High School Group IV division (the toughest division in New Jersey). Although not my main event, I ran a sub 2:00 800m as well. In college, I continued running for Army (West Point) with a personal best of 47s 400m before being sidelined with an injury.

Coach Franklin is an excellent coach. He is extremely knowledgable about all of the technical aspects of sprinting efficiently. Within one session he was able to record my form and give me immediate feedback which helped me immensely. Highly recommended!

Coach Franklin is an amazing coach! My son is a high functioning autistic kid who loves Track & Field. Coach Franklin didn’t treat him any different. He acknowledged his strengths while also working on techniques that needs to be implemented in becoming a better athlete. If you are looking for a great coach, I would recommend him.

Had a great session with Coach Frank. My daughter is newer to the sport and looking to improve her basics. He broke things down in ways she could understand and made an impact in a short period of time. Great style and knowledge. Looking forward to her next session.

Really enjoyed our first session with Coach Rivera. Sebastian wanted to stay longer and keep working. Looking forward to many more sessions together

Coach Franklin is a great coach. My daughter learned some great tips and is looking forward to other training sessions in the future.

Coach Rivera did a great job making me feel comfortable in our lesson. Coming from a completely different sport, and starting track is a very difficult jump- but from Coach Rivera’s positivity and attitude I felt less stressed about start a new sport. Great first lesson! And looking forward to more.

My daughter ended her first session with Coach Franklin with a big smile on her face! She was happy to have worked hard and said things such as "he was very motivating"..."I really felt he knew what he was talking about"..."very encouraging". Coach Franklin came with a planned hour and kept a good balance of instruction, drills and breaks. He was able to get a good "read" on my daughter rather quickly and kept her challenged the entire hour. Looking forward to future sessions.

Coach Rivera was and forever will be my favorite coach. He taught our team the physical and mental aspects of track and it helped prepare us for our races. He always told us that after a certain point in a race it's all mental. Coach Rivera also taught us the importance of going full out at the beginning of your race because you only have about 6 seconds of atp. Steering away from running, as a jumper he helped me in bettering my form and also gaining power in my jumps. In the 3 years I've been coached by Coach Rivera, I have felt so accomplished. Even if I didn't have confidence in my jumps Rivera did and pushed me to become better and take my time in learning new techniques and drills. Coach Rivera is the best coach you could get as he is smart, empathetic, will driven, and strives for you to be successful.
As a Freshman, high school was a different environment to step into. Trying to balance school, extracurriculars, and sports was a difficult thing. When track season started, I was worried about how the season would go and how well I would do. I knew that I would need to work hard for my goals. It was thanks to Coach Rivera that I was able to start on a path to success. He had a huge impact on my life. He taught me how to improve as an athlete and grow as an individual. Track & Field is a mental sport. This was something I always knew, but I didn’t fully understand until training under Coach Rivera. Each workout he would create was specific and detailed. We, as athletes, always understood the purpose of each repetition and the specific duration of the break because of Coach Rivera. These workouts were difficult. Many times I would break form or get in my head that I couldn’t possibly do another rep. However, Coach Rivera encouraged me to always finish and focus on my form. It was during this moment, when it seemed super tough, that I was improving. I wouldn’t understand until I started racing the effects of this teaching. In the 400, the last 100 meters is all mental strength. Through his coaching, I realized that I always had more to give even when I thought I didn’t. I was able to improve my time by seconds because of this mental shift. My body not only became stronger, but my performance improved immensely due to my new mindset. He instilled in me the belief that I could constantly be better than I was yesterday. Coach Rivera brought another meaning to the word coach. I’ve had basketball, dance, and gymnastics coaches before, but they didn’t make such a significant mark on my life as he did. I saw how some ideas or practices taught during track can transfer over to other activities in my life. During practice, Coach Rivera taught the use of proper running mechanics through repetition and applying them. This cycle bled into how I started to study for school. I take AP courses, and repetition and application are crucial to getting good grades on tests and understanding the material. I recognized the importance of seemingly minute actions. Before practice would start, Coach Rivera would come to the track at 100% and fully present. This is something I struggled with. As a high schooler, I am constantly thinking about tomorrow, next month, and next year. But Coach Rivera would always say and show how important it was to be present and in the moment. I started to replicate that in my everyday life and realized how much of life I was taking for granted. Taking in each moment is truly a blessing, and it was through Coach Rivera I noticed that. Coach Rivera is truly a wonderful coach. With his knowledge and dedication, I improved immensely as an athlete. Even my 4x200 relay got to compete in State because of his teachings. Coach Rivera is the type of coach that every athlete deserves in their life. Someone who pushes them to do better and helps them achieve their goals. I am beyond grateful to call Coach Rivera, my coach.
Hello, my name is Madison Chandler and I was a member of the Oswego High School track team in Oswego Illinois. My overall track experience wouldn’t be what it was without Coach Rivera. I wouldn’t be half the athlete I was without him. He not only coaches because he can, he coaches because he cares. Even if I may not have wanted to always believe it, I knew Rivera always had my back. The way he carries himself as a person is not anything I can describe. I not only learned so much about track from him, but just so much about life. My team and I knew we weren’t just athletes to him, we were people. People that he continued to always put first. Coach Rivera will always continue to be an amazing role model for me beyond the track. I truly couldn’t have asked for a better person to be coached by. There aren’t enough thank you’s in the world I could give to Coach Rivera to express my gratitude!!
Coach Rivera thank you for shaping me into the athlete I am today. You provided a phenomenal work out plan that specifically catered to my personal goals for my body. You spent endless hours sharpening my skills and teaching me about how to run the 400m dash. All of your coaching payed off when I shaved my 56 second 400 to a 51.7 400m dash time at the Sectionals meet. Your training is worth more than the cost. - Michael W.
My Journey with coach Rivera. I had started training with coach Rivera in the 10th grade. At that time, it was my first year ever running for track and field. Coach Rivera had started to be a volunteer coach that very same year for Oswego High school. My first meet I had ran the 4x400 and at that time I had only ran a 1 something. At that time, I thought that a 1 minute was amazing. However, I would soon realize that it was slow and with that I was determined to keep running and keep getting better. Coach Rivera had also realized that I had potential to be a great runner. The rest of the year I had spent just learning the best running form also the best way to run the 400. Then came my junior year. With my junior year I had started with a goal to be the best on the team and qualify for state. The beginning of the season I started off by running a 56. Coach Rivera had told me that to not worry about this and he also said he will train me the hardest he has ever trained me, so I can get better. Every single day was harder than the last at times I had pushed my body to the breaking point and beyond. However, coach Rivera would push me past because he had known that I could take it and more. With all this training I had improved time throughout the year had gotten faster and faster. By the end of the year I had beaten my high schools number 2 runner and I had become the new number 2. I had also run a 49 and gotten close to beating the 1 place runner. This year my grades had also improved dramatically with the more running. Coach had helped for me to form a schedule for homework and studying which helped me to have the not just my best running year however also my best academic year. Then with my senior year the past number 1 runner had graduated, and it was up to me to help my team with everything. Coach Rivera had told me at the beginning of the year that I could do it and that I can help my time be the best that they can be. Throughout the year he had helped me to become not just the best runner bust also the best team mate for everyone on that team. Coach also had helped me to grow up and be more mature with all of life’s problems. Coach also help not just me but also others on the team to become their very best. He had put everyone in difficult positions and made sure everyone on the team was comfortable with anything that will happen to them in a race. Thank you coach Rivera for helping me to become the best runner that I can be. -Brian J.
When I first met Coach Rivera my junior year of high school, I was scared of running certain events in track and lacked a lot of confidence. He worked with me through my last two years of high school by shaping me physically into a faster runner, and building me up mentally to improve my attitude in the rough times so I will never quit. Coach Rivera taught me to never give in whether in a race or off the track in any other scenario. His teachings have helped me after high school, especially during basic training camp for ROTC. I had to remind myself to stay positive and keep my confidence up in order to make it through the tough times. I graduated basic training camp and continue to improve my self confidence.
