More About Coach Dominique
I have been coaching for 6 years. I have coached ages 7 to 23 and older. I specialize personally in sprints, speed and weightroom workouts. I have had athletes who have attended college after our time together. I worked for 3 years at Caryl Gilbert Smith's Summer Track Camp at UCF. Since then I have been freelance coaching upon request from high school athletes trying to go to college. My dad is a high profile high school coach in NJ and I feed off a lot of my knowledge from him. Both of my parents did track professionally and have enriched me with a vast amount of knowledge in track and field.
I was a Division I athlete at the University of Central Florida in Orlando for 3 years and at The University of Kentucky for 2 years. I am a 5 time NCAA All American. In 2013, my top 60-meter time 7.32 ranked inside the Track and Field News National Top 25 (including pros). I was 2011 Conference USA Indoor 200-meter champion and The Kentucky Invitational 200 meters champion. I was also a member of UCF's Conference USA Outdoor Champion 4x100-meter relay team in 2011 and 2012. My personal records collegiality indoors are 60 meters personal best of 7.24 and a 200M PR of 23.26.
In 2014,I ran the first leg of UK's school-record and Silver-Medal 4x100m relay team at the SEC Championships. I was a NCAA East Preliminary Championship qualifier in the 100m, 200m and 4x1, SEC 200m scorer, finishing seventh in the final with a season-best time of 23.49 and a NCAA Championships qualifier in the 200m. My personal records for outdoor are 11.32 in the 100m dash and 23.28 in the 200m dash.
I attended Immaculate Conception HS in NJ from 2006 to 2010.While at ICHS, I set 11 school, 6 conference, 4 county and 3 state records and was named to the all-county and all-state teams as a senior at Immaculate Conception High School. I was honored as the All-County MVP in 2010, and was named to the all-county, all-state and all-conference teams as well as being named team MVP all four years. I was also a 2009 NSSF U.S. Junior National Team competitor at the Fourth Caribbean Scholastic Invitational. On the national stage, I placed 2nd two years in a row at the Indoor Nike High School Nationals in the 60 meter dash in 2008 and 2009.
In a session, you can expect that we are going to give 120% in whatever we do! Before the session we will discuss where you want to improve somethings or areas of struggle and capitalize on that moving forward. I like to work on the mental aspect of the athlete because track is an extremely mental sport. I want to make sure that you are mentally tough, which will help for making you a better athlete.
I am a "hands on" coach and not afraid to show you specifically what a drill looks like or a certain technique.
I like to work on drills because they help the muscles to form memory of what it needs to do in different phases of your run. Repeatedly work is great for perfecting in certain areas in one's form where there is lack.
I am also very big on core work because without a strong core, you will not be able to hold positions; therefore you will not be able to finish a race efficiently! Core exercise would be more then basic abs; we would be working on your lower abdominal muscles, back, obliques, glutes and pelvic region.
We would start off with having a quick "mental chat", just to see where your head is at and to prepare for the session ahead. Then we would warm up by doing a lap, intense/ effective stretches and following with speed drills. Once that part of the warm up is over will move on to technically drills that will work specifically with that athlete's event( hurdle drills for hurdler, wickets for sprinters, etc.). Once that is completed, we move to the final part of our session and that is the running part. During this time I would push and motivate you during your runs( short or long) and video your runs in order to study what it is we can fix to get you to run more efficiently towards the line. After this we will then end the session by cooling down discussing how you feel after the session.
