More About Coach Chris
I have five years of experience coaching and training athletes across a wide range of ages and competitive levels. I have worked with athletes ages 9–24 and have experience coaching at every level, from beginners and recreational athletes through collegiate competition.
My sport-specific training experience includes baseball, hockey, and volleyball, with an emphasis on developing athletic movement, strength, conditioning, sport-specific skills, and overall performance. I have had the opportunity to work with athletes who have gone on to receive college athletic scholarships in each of these sports.
My professional experience includes serving as an intern at Baylor University and coaching with the Lone Star Brahmas, where I was part of a national championship program. These experiences have provided me with exposure to both collegiate and high-performance athletic environments.
I hold a Master’s degree from Baylor University and am committed to continued professional development. I hold a Precision Nutrition certification and am currently pursuing my CSCS and EXOS Performance Specialist certifications.
My coaching philosophy centers on developing the complete athlete by combining sport-specific training, strength and conditioning, movement quality, nutrition, and individualized programming to help athletes reach their goals and maximize their potential.
My primary athletic background is in baseball, where I competed as a pitcher. I played three years of varsity baseball at the high school level before continuing my playing career at Colorado State University, where I competed for four years as a collegiate baseball player.
Competing at the collegiate level gave me firsthand experience with the demands of high-level athletics, including structured training, strength and conditioning, competition preparation, recovery, and the mental and physical demands of performing consistently as an athlete.
My experience as a collegiate pitcher has also directly influenced my approach to coaching and athlete development. It has given me an understanding of the dedication and preparation required to compete at a high level and allows me to relate to athletes who are working toward collegiate opportunities themselves.
Clients can expect every session to be structured around their individual goals, sport, experience level, and current physical abilities. My goal is to create an environment where athletes understand not only what they are doing, but also why they are doing it.
A typical session begins with a dynamic warm-up and movement preparation. I assess how the athlete is moving and use mobility, activation, and dynamic movement drills to prepare them for the demands of the session. From there, we progress into movement and athletic development, which may include acceleration and sprint mechanics, change of direction, jumping and landing, coordination, balance, and reaction drills.
The strength and conditioning portion is then tailored to the athlete. Depending on their goals and sport, this may include strength development, power, speed, agility, conditioning, and injury-prevention exercises. For sport-specific athletes, I incorporate drills that transfer to the demands of their sport. With baseball players, for example, I may focus on rotational power, throwing-related movement patterns, lower-body strength, acceleration, deceleration, and shoulder and core stability. For hockey and volleyball athletes, I can emphasize skating-related power, lateral movement, explosiveness, jumping, landing mechanics, and change of direction.
Throughout the session, I focus heavily on proper technique and quality of movement. I coach athletes through each exercise, make adjustments when necessary, and progressively challenge them as they develop.
I typically finish sessions with conditioning, recovery work, and/or mobility depending on the athlete's needs and the day's training objectives. I also track progress over time and adjust programming based on how the athlete is responding.
Overall, my approach is to develop the complete athlete—not just make them stronger or faster, but help them move better, perform better, and build the physical tools and confidence necessary to succeed in their sport.
