More About Coach Chloe
I am certified in CPR and First Aid by the Red Cross Organization. I have worked as a lifeguard guarding at the George Mannon Aquatic Center in Torrance for a few swim meets hosted by the team, Swim Torrance. My shifts lasted two days at a time, around eight hours each day. I assisted any swimmers or coaches in need of first aid and kept the pool facility secure and safe. In addition, I have also worked as a swim coach/instructor for Swim Torrance, and have been one since summer 2022. Lifeguard certification and a two-day training is required to hold this position. I coached for multiple sessions, each lasting three weeks. Lessons are for three days a week, each an hour long. There are sessions both during the summer and the school year. The children I coach are between the ages of five and thirteen and their abilities vary. As an instructor, I must keep an eye on all swimmers at all times and make sure they feel safe and comfortable in this learning environment. I must help improve their technique on all four strokes while allowing them to enjoy their lesson and gain a love for the sport. I must exhibit leadership skills, communication skills, and responsibility. Since it is a more hands-on job, I have skills, such as how to interact with children with all unique personalities as well as making sure they are all listening to what I am explaining. I have also held a few private lesson sessions with children between ages two and six, where I taught them how to feel more comfortable in the water and the basics of water safety.
I have been swimming competitively for about ten years on a year-round competitive club swim team, Swim Torrance. My practices are usually two to three hours a day with six to seven practices a week. At swim meets, which are a few times a month, I am at the competition pool for multiple days, sometimes all day for prelims and finals. I have sectionals cut in the 200-meter IM, and my best events are the 200 IM, 400 IM, and the 100 Breaststroke. I have been to competitions and swim camps around the country in states such as Colorado, Utah, and Arizona. I was also on my high school club swim team, at North High School, swimming for Girls' Varsity all four years. I won MVP all years and made it to CIF prelims and finals all four years as well, from division four my first year, all the way to division 2 this past year. Since I will be attending UC San Diego in the fall, I plan on swimming for their club team there to continue my swim journey.
I coach private lessons for kids from preschool to high school ages. I teach water safety and the basics of swimming or help swimmers improve their technique, depending on their levels and skills. My sessions are half an hour for younger swimmers to an hour for older swimmers but are flexible to what the client is looking for. For swimmers who are younger and are not as comfortable in the water, I would have them learn water safety and the four basic strokes, along with kicking and holding their breath underwater. I would have older swimmers who currently swim improve their strokes by doing drills for each stroke, using equipment such as kickboards, pull buoys, fins, etc., and analyzing their strokes. Multiple sessions are recommended as a few strokes or skills would be focused on each lesson.
