More About Coach Andrew

I possess a 1.5 years worth of assistant coaching experience in NCAA Division 2 athletics at the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown campus, all while balancing the rigors of my own athletic training and competition. Alongside the head coach, Nick Ramirez, I contributed to a remarkable metamorphosis of the sprinting program at Pitt-Johnstown through the introduction of a proper training regimen. Our proficient athletes were able to shave off over half a second in the 100m dash, over one second in the 200m sprint, and over two seconds in the 400m dash, a feat which I myself also accomplished. My academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, supplemented by a comprehensive understanding of exercise physiology.

During my time in high school, I showcased my athleticism as a four-time letter winner in outdoor track and three-time letter winner in indoor track by as a sprinter, in addition to being a three-time letter winner in football. I competed in NCAA Division 2 athletics at the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown campus. My personal bests include 10.88 seconds in the 100m dash and 21.83 seconds in the 200m sprint. Furthermore, I have earned three All-PSAC conference accolades for finishing among the top three in the 4x1, and top eight for the 100m and 200m. Additionally, my commitment to academics has garnered me five student-athlete honors, reflective of my dedication to maintaining at least 3.25 GPA while training and competing.

A typical session will include a warm up consisting of dynamic stretching and drills to get the athlete physically and mentally prepared to train. Then a session may include sprint drills such as bounding, ankling, wickets, and other fast-twitch activation. The main workout of the session may include plyometrics, sport-specific speed drills, short sprints, long sprints, tempo, or active recovery. The workout for the day will depend on a few factors such as the goal of the athlete, the athlete's current recovery status, and the specific program the athlete is in. The end of the session will involve a brief cool down and stretching as well as any mobility work needed. Non-track/field days will include lifting for experienced athletes with a focus on compound lifts to develop strength as well as plyometrics and lighter weights to develop power. All athletes should leave the session feeling like they gave 100% but still could do a little more. This ensures maximum focus on recovery, which is after all how an athlete gets better.

Client Reviews

Coach Andrew is very pleasant and easy to work with. He communicates well, and, most important, he knows his stuff. We have only had two sessions, but my son is already seeing the picture and planning out a better practice routine.
