More About Coach Alan
I've coached 4 of my 5 children and their teammates through HS and 3 seasons as Assistant Coach at Technology HS in Cotati, CA from 2023-2025. I created the training tests and protocols, managed and trained 100+ fitness trainers in both CPR and the Nautilus Principles at the Metro Nautilus Fitness Centers in Baltimore, MD from 1980-1982. Certificates in CPR and CPR training.
I competed in multiple events in HS from 1970 - 1973 in Baltimore County, MD. I walked onto the U of Wyoming Division 1 Track team in 1974 and competed through 1979 as a decathlete. Highest place was 2nd in the Pentathlon at the U of Colorado Indoor Invitational at Boulder, CO, January 1979.
A "typical" session is highly dependent on each athlete's event, age, level of competence, etc. However, I strive for 75% conditioning, 25% technique work, with emphasis, for ALL athletes, on speed and strength. Solid warm up and stretching precedes the actual W/O with a similar focus on warming down properly post W/O. I generally start and end with a focus on the mental aspect of the W/O and prepping mentally for meets. EVERY rep or stride requires focus on the ultimate goals; PR's and having a good time.

Evan Sanderson, THS athlete - School record holder in the LJ, TJ. NIKE Elite Emerging Talent participant 2026 - Hayward Field (Testimonial)
If there’s one way to describe Alan, it’s that he’s like a coach you’d see in a movie. Working with him was such a privilege because of how much effort he puts in to it, giving personalized training regimens and feedback. I not only got a coach, but I also got someone that truly believed in me, and that I felt comfortable talking to about all sorts of things. His experience shows, which is what makes him such a great teacher.
Addie Hill, Josie's twin sister. (Testimonial)
I had the pleasure of having coach Alan one on one for a period of time, to work on high jump. Alan is such a friendly and understanding coach. He really wanted to specialize and cater my training to my strengths and weaknesses. He is a detailed and thorough coach, focusing on the smallest and most detrimental mistakes that I myself cant notice. Throughout my training process with Alan I gained so much confidence in my athletic ability’s and before race mental preparations. Everyone who has had the privilege of being his athlete shares an appreciation and love for him. -Addie Hill Inbox

Coach Alan has been an amazing coach and I feel so lucky to have been coached by him. His positive energy towards the sport is truly uplifting and practice with him is always a blast. Coach Alan’s unwavering trust and faith in my athletic abilities has given me the confidence to get after it and has made me the athlete I am today.
Dominic Dewald, SENIOR Class of 2026 - Technology High School, Cotati, CA (Testimonial)
I started track my sophomore year of highschool, coming off a leg injury my freshman year. Coach Alan was there for me as well as my entire team, being very well rounded knowing the ins and outs about track as a sport. I was slow at first and I was then motivated by my competition to improve and so I did. I always shared my goals with coach Alan and we both got to work on them and ultimately achieving them. Alan motivated me to be the best version of myself spreading his knowledge and overall love for track, which in turn helped me to be in the right environment to improve upon my times. I find Alan’s examples of how to approach an event very helpful and I’ve always connected with the stories he has from his personal experiences as a track and field athlete.
