More About Coach Walter
I have coached both flag and tackle football for the past 2 and a half years. I've trained all kinds of football athletes for a year now. I coached from 9 year olds to adult football. I recently had 3 teams to coach which were 3rd/4th, 5th/6th flag football and 9U tackle football. I've worked with Flight Action Adult Flag football, NFL Flag youth flag football, Otay Ranch Broncos tackle football, and San Diego Deaf/CODA Aztecs tackle football. I work with all age groups and all positions. I have received a certificate for completing and passing the USA Football Coaching Course for both tackle and flag.
I have played tackle football at James Madison High school and all 4 years I was a varsity starter. I played tight end, fullback, offensive linemen and defensive tackle. My junior year I was 2nd team All-League and my senior year I was 1st team All-League. I received the coaches player of the year award. I had a full ride scholarship to Georgia Tech University. I ended my football days at Grossmont Community College with a torn ACL and 2 dislocated shoulders. I am currently in school earning my bachelors degree in Sports Management.
Start off with a warm up lap, stretches, warm up, do ladder drills to teach basic foot work, teach why every body movement is important. Teach timing in each position (when to break, when to release, etc.) Catching drills, throwing drills, throwing on the move, catching on the move. Teach them how to explode out of stance. Teach them how to control themselves and their opponent. Also to discipline them into being great leaders meaning attitude, spirit, passion, leadership, and great sportsmanship.
