More About Coach Steve

I have over 40 years of sports performance and strength coaching athletes for many sports. I was raised in a football coaching family and have a very strong background in football, sprinting and powerlifting. My training specializes in strength, speed and agility for football, soccer, track and any field or court sport. My abilities and decades of experience allow me to look at an athlete, how they move and the needs they have and develop a personalized program to take them as far as they physically and mentally can go in sports and life. Through hard training with positive reinforcement and with the athletes full cooperation they can become the best they can be. I work with kids as young as 6 years old and up to young professional athletes. I have been a gym owner for 20 years in the past and have certifications from the IYCA, TTS and BFS. The biggest positive is the over 40 years experience in working with youth and athletes in many sports. Please only schedule through CoachUp.

1975- Graduate- Bexley High School, Bexley, Ohio High School All-American, second team All-State Ohio wide receiver and 3 letters in track for 100 and 200 yard dash and 880 relay.
1976- Spring Football, Ferris State University; second freshman to ever start varsity, wide receiver.
1977-1978- Trained by Harvey Keith co-owner with Mr. World Steve Davis of Valencia Health Club, Valencia Calif. for the gym business and I was training partner to Mike (The Zipper) Sable multiple armature and pro bodybuilding champion.
1978-1998– Owner of O’Brien’s Health Club, personal trainer and strength coach for ages ranging for 6 -75, amateurs and pros, in bodybuilding, powerlifting, football, track, volleyball and basketball.
1980- NPC Mr. Columbus Bodybuilding overall winner, height class winner, most muscular and best poser.
1981-1984- NPC Bodybuilding local, state and regional judge.
750 LB Deadlift 1985 Ohio,USA
1984- Ranked #6 in nation in deadlift at 220 class with 750lb DL on the Top 100 list PL USA, place 1st to 3rd in many meets from 83-86 at 220 and 275 weight classes, averaging an 1850 lb. total in single ply equipment.
1985-1988- Personal Strength Coach, 4 years for Mike Morosky, Columbus Academy, fullback, 1500 yards rushing junior and senior year totaling 3000 in two seasons, 1st team All-State Ohio and team was Ohio Football State Champions. At the beginning of Mike’s senior year track season I took his 12 sec 100 meter time down to 11 in his next meet in only one session using resistances bands for pull and fixing the start.
1988-Studied under Dr. Michael Yessis in Escondido, Calif. while coaching Mike Morosky, the bio-mechanics of sprinting and strength training for sprinting.
1991- NASSA Powerlifting Kentucky Regional 1st place 275 class 35-39 age group.
2011- Studied Parisi Speed School 40 Yard Dash training and Dynamic Warm Up and implemented them in the coaching of two private coaching football clients taking 3/10s of a second and more off their 40 time.
July- Lexen Extreme IPA Powerlifting Meet, Columbus Ohio. First power meet in over 20 years at age 54, in the 275 lb. class, 50-54 age group placed 2nd over-all and still has as of 3/7/13, 3 IPA Ohio State records and making 7 out of 9 attempts. All was done drug free against others who weren't.

We will evaluate the results from session to session and adjust accordingly to what we will add or take away so there is no wasted time. Sports are seasonal so it depends on the sport and to how close the competition begins as to how training is done. Off season we work on specific weaknesses and build strength. power and muscle as needed for the sport. Preseason we work more sport specific moving into speed work, agility, endurance and whatever else the athlete needs to compete at their highest level. I believe in hard training when needed but know how to back off whenever needed to prevent burnout and possible injury possible. Even thought becoming the best you can be will take a lot of blood sweat and tears it always must be enjoyably and diverse enough to keep the athlete growing and developing. Off- season workouts are held less often, slower and longer and preseason sessions are more often, shorter but very intense. In-season training when possible is simple basic and quick to allow for full recovery. It is hard to describe a single session because there are so many variables involved and the sports being trained for. I do promise you will work your hardest and smartest every time we meet.
