More About Coach Steve

As the founder of CrossFit Costa Mesa in 2008 and as an independent trainer I have coached all levels of all athletes over the years. Both women and men, kids and adults, from office jockeys and homemakers to military special forces and elite athletes. Fitness competitors, powerlifters, Olympic lifters, CrossFit athletes, rowers, competing at all levels up to and including the world stage have sought me out for my unique and accomplished coaching approach and format. I am certified by CrossFit (level 1), Gym Jones (level 2) and have taken courses in nutrition, powerlifting, and olympic lifting.

I started playing organized sports when I was 5 and fell in love with aquatics. As an athlete, I competed in swimming and water polo at California Baptist University, Orange Coast College, Clovis West, (JrHS and club teams). Due to my effort and dedication I was awarded a full scholarship and competed at the collegiate level.

For general physical training, each session is focused on mobility, strength, auxiliary, core work, and then conditioning, depending on what the person needs.

For sport specific training, the program is broken into cycles depending on the needs of the athlete compared to the requirements of the sport. The first week is spend doing assessments, qualify of movement, base numbers, and goals, and teaching proper form/techniques for most of the core exercises.

Client Reviews

I still remember the first few months of being in CrossFit Costa Mesa and having Steve coach pretty much all the classes. I decided to work with Steve because I looked up to him as one of the smartest down to earth coaches who doesn't teach just his method but as a coach that considers what is suited to my goals and what I'm trying to obtain. His strengths as a coach is caring about me and my fitness more than just a trainer but in a personal relationship and able to discuss not just fitness but living a successful and thriving life. Steve was able to make me care about the small details in my training. Not just about getting through the movements but the purpose behind them. For example the warm ups and mobility that I use to just go through but began to take serious and saw the benefits to that helping me in the long run and promote recovery. The biggest difference Steve created was in me taking my training more serious and was able to motivate me even during one of the most difficult and unstable points in my life. My biggest concerns when I started training with Steve was not being able to keep up with the training and him. Those were put at ease when I saw that every athlete at any level pushes themselves and has their own difficulties. I would tell someone that it may seem intimidating at first but after the first week you will be at ease that you will know you are in good hands. One of my favorite parts about training with you was how much I grew not just in a physical manner but so much mentally and personally
Steve was my coach at CrossFit714 and what he taught and how he taught it always stuck out to me. He was the most focused trainer there in regards to proper form and warm up/stretching. Making sure we knew the basics, especially with Oly lifts. Also, he was a fun coach. Things were always interesting and challenging! His knowledge and approach really stands out. He tailored the training to me, above and beyond what my goals were. The training plan he gave me fit perfectly with my schedule and allowed me to continue workout with the group the whole time. I improved all around, not just with strength. Another thing that stands out about Steve is, proper training and support. I didn't have any concerns, Steve came highly recommended and I had seen him work with others before. I would highly recommend people to utilize what Steve's offering. I tell everyone I can to go to you when they are looking for training programs to take them to the next level.
Well having watched Steve workout and coach, as an athletic person I could tell that Steve knew your stuff and explained things in a way that fit my learning style. Plus Steve is a beast, I remember one time someone had hit a max dead lift of like 400 and you came up and knocked out like 6 reps... Steve's passion for his students to succeed is a huge strength of his, he is very willing and excited to help me and he is very accommodating to make sure I had the tools and knowledge I needed to follow the program. The amount of motivation Steve provided, was something that was different than other coaches, there were definitely days in the program where I was sore as hell and was not in the mood to go do some 3 position snatching and whatnot but the motivation helped me get through it. I was concerned about not knowing how to do some of the movements that had been programmed for me. This was put at ease by merely asking and Steve had no problem explaining and or demonstrating for me. I would tell someone that's interested in working with Steve, be prepared for a full comprehensive program. When Steve jumps to help you and program something for you, he goes in head first and doesn't hold back. So be prepared to work and follow the program and success will follow.
When I met Steve his passion for whole body health was contagious. I soon found myself on my own wellness journey and knew he was someone that could help me. I had lots of questions and concerns about where to start and how I was going to go about reaching my goals. As a single working woman my main concern was finding the time and energy to fit one more thing into my schedule. When I received my workout and meal plan I knew right away that Steve had listened to my concerns and tailored the plan to fit my needs. They were simple, straightforward, and efficient. The first day, I followed my meal plan but hadn't done the workout. Steve messaged me to see if I had questions. I told Steve I had run out of time that day and didn't do the workout. He then told me something that changed my whole attitude. He told me that things will always come up so I needed to be selfish and set aside that time for myself everyday. From that day on, I haven't missed a day of working out. Its only been three weeks and I feel great. I look forward to Steve's workouts. They usually only take 20 minutes but they are already changing my body. Steve's knowledge and encouragement have been invaluable in my journey. I'm excited to see what I can accomplish with his help.
