More About Coach Steve

I was a competitive swimmer in my youth, competing from age group club teams through to being a 2-year member of the Varsity Swimming Team at Michigan State University. My personal specialties are middle distance and sprint freestyle and backstroke. I have won multiple State Championship swimming races, participated in 3 National Championship meets, and trained with multiple Olympians in my competitive career.

I have taught swimming to hundreds of kids and adults, also have coached country club, middle school and adult recreation swim teams in Michigan, and California. I have both taught swimming and coached a High School State Swimming Champion in Michigan, as well as multple college swimmers, tri-athletes and open-water swim racers.

A typical client training session with me would have a specific training focus (e.g. a specific stroke, starts & turns) and would begin with an overview of proper approach and technique, then we would go through a series of drills or actiivties that break the process down into smaller pieces to be perfected, then reassambeld as an imporved approach to tthe focus activity.

Visual aids may be used, and take-home written instruction is included with each client session. Video analysis with telestration available for extra fee.

I have won multiple State Championship swimming races (long and short course), participated in 3 National Championship meets short course), also competed against and trained with multiple Olympians in my competitive career.

Customized sessions based on swimmer skill.
Start with stretching, discussion of hydro-dynamic theory, technique, and students personal experience.
Progressive lessson plan starts with the main components of proper swimming (kick, stroke, body position), and incorporates drills to improve swimming techniques, build strength and confidence, and improve swimming results.

Client Reviews

I hired Steve to teach me how to play the outfield in softball. This is not collegiate softball, but co-ed casual, beer drinking, softball. I am 35 and have always loved baseball in its various forms.
Steve is incredibly observant and could spot flaws and bad habits I had picked up during my life time. I've never had formal coaching and it was important to me to understand how to do it right. We've had two one hour sessions together, where he covered throwing mechanics, foot work, and ball trajectory.
I will continue hiring him for sessions as I sense an improvement, not only in my understanding of the nuances of softball, but also in my instincts.

I would recommend Steve to anyone looking for a batting coach. Thank you for your critique -
professional, detailed with an eye on technique!

Coach Steve is fantastic. I chose him because of his years of experience coaching baseball. My son has absolutely no experience playing baseball, but Coach Steve has agreed to take him on for privates. In the two sessions that we have had so far, my son has walked off the field very positive and excited about going to the next lesson. Steve puts a tremendous amount of time setting up the field for the lesson before you get there. Seeing the effort and time that he puts into the lesson before the lesson begins, in addition to his attentiveness and coaching skill on the field, I feel pretty confident that leaving him a 5 star review is spot on. It has to be difficult working with a 14YO that has no previous experience, but Coach Steve has taken it all in stride, and been able to keep my kid positive, and confident. Thanks, Steve!

A professional and a great coach. Steve worked with my nephew (14y) and my (7/8y)nieces.
Steve was always prepared and on time. He set a plan from the first day with reasonable goals and reached most of them by the end of his coaching. I liked how he considered the children's ages adding some fun time in the water such as doing a handstand under the water. Moreover, although my nephew's response was slow because of an old brain injury, Steve was kind, friendly, and patient.
The children liked him and they were always excited to swim and work on their moves with him.
Thank you Steve,
