More About Coach Staci

I've helped youth and high school high jumpers PR by over half a foot in as little as one track season. In just three full seasons at the High Jump coach at Redlands High School, I've coached three different athletes to be High Jump league champion & sent one off to compete at a D2 university. As far as my youth athletes, I've coached a 7th grade girl to jump 5'0" and win AAU nationals.
I am a two-time NCAA All-American High Jumper and my conference championship meet record is still standing after a quarter of a century! On top of that, I started competing in track when I was just 6 years old. As a youth athlete, I was Washington state champion in the 50 Meter Dash, 2nd and 3rd place in the 100 Meter Dash at State Finals, and a 200 Meter Dash state finalist.
I was voted MVP on my junior high and college track teams. I've held school records in the High Jump, hurdles, and 400 Meter Dash. In college, I was also Rookie of the Year and won numerous Scholar-Athlete awards. I started high jumping in 8th grade. By 9th grade, I was a 4'10" jumper and graduated high school with a PR of 5'3." I currently compete in masters Track & Field where I've also been a High Jump All-American and gold medal winner year after year.
In addition to High Jump expertise, I've been a plant-based athlete since I was 12 years old and offer a deep knowledge of sports nutrition. On top of that, I've competed at nationals with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and my athletes appreciate my unique understanding of sports psychology (very important).
In three full seasons as High Jump Coach at Redlands High School, I've coached:
- 2025 season: Beaumont Invite champ, Inland Empire Championships winner, Citrus Belt League champion (and qualified two 9th graders and two 10th graders for prelims), CIF-SS qualifier (and the #2 ranked 9th grade boy high jumper in the state of California)
- 2024 season: Saddle Up Invite champion, CIF-SS, Mt Sac, & Arcadia qualifier, Citrus Belt League champion (and a total of 3 league finalists)
- 2023 season: 1st, 2nd (x2), & 7th place at Citrus Belt League finals, 3x CIF-SS qualifiers, Beaumont Invite champ
I offer both High Jump technique sessions (I will evaluate your high jumping) and workout sessions (high-jump-specific sprinting and plyometrics drills). Everything I know and do as a coach stems from the life-changing relationship I had with my college High Jump coach, Matt Belfield. He's now the director of Track & Field/Cross Country at the University of Vermont and has written an article about his coaching philosophy that essentially mirrors my own: https://www.coachingthewholeathlete.com/post/advocating-and-empowering-by-matt-belfield-head-track-field-and-xc-coach-university-of-vermont

Doree Bruno (parent) (Testimonial)
Coach Nichols is a dedicated, knowledgeable, and experienced high jump coach. With a strong focus on fundamentals and proper technique, Coach Nichols helped the student athletes build confidence and improve their performance, whether they were new to the event or looking to compete at a higher level. She celebrated every victory and personal record with genuine enthusiasm and offered steady support and guidance when performances needed improvement. I always felt that she was a strong advocate for her high jumpers, ensuring they had the best possible circumstances in which to compete. I can highly recommend Coach Nichols-her leadership has made a lasting impact on the athletes she coached, both in their athletic performance and personal growth.
