More About Coach Sean

I have a wide range of swim coach experiences ranging from age group USS swimming, to NCAA Division I to private swim lessons for a wide range of swimmers. My accomplishments include gold and silver medals at the US Open, 12 time NCAA All-American and Big Ten Conference record holder for over ten years. My coaching is based on my own swim career from age 6 to 22 where I competed at the NCAA division I level, swam on the US National Team in international competition and was world ranked.

I hold a Master of Science in Kinesiology from Michigan State University with an emphasis on sport psychology. While I was a graduate assistant coach at MSU I worked with the team in this capacity to help improve their performance. All the strength and conditioning training and perfect mechanics won’t mean a thing if your head is not in it and I enjoy instructing athletes in this facet of competition as well.

I am completely comfortable in planning and developing swim workouts or private swim lessons for kids up to masters level swimmers - both in the pool and dry-land workouts. Having competed at the top tier of swimming I have unique and valuable insights into the technical and mechanical aspects of swimming. My technical expertise may be most valuable to anyone who is already a good athlete but hoping to hone their swimming skills for triathlons or swim competitions. If you are already a good biker and runner and hoping to get a competitive edge in the water, I'm your coach.

Swimming is about strength and conditioning to be sure, however, equally important but often overlooked are the technique or mechanics of swimming that allow a great swimmer to stand out from an average swimmer because he or she can move through the water efficiently covering greater distances and using less energy than your competitors. I know dozens of drills and techniques that I can teach you that will make an immediate difference in your swimming. As an example of my expertise in swimming mechanics, Rich Gannon (retired NFL quarterback) contacted me and asked I give him a swim lesson before he competed in the ABC Battle of the Superstars. After an hour and half swim lesson I was able to help him improve his mechanics significantly and he won the swim competition. I love swimming and hope I can share my experience and skills with you to make you a better swimmer.

I like to start by listening to you so I understand what you want to learn or accomplish in our session(s) and also how many sessions you foresee needing. Knowing if you want to do 1 or 2 sessions versus more than that will certainly impact how we proceed and at what pace. From there we will do an in-the-water assessment– see where you are at in relation to your goal. After the assessment we will review what I feel are strengths and what can be improved. If we are in agreement, the last step would be to work on specific changes and adjustments or provide you with the correct workout or drills to improve your swimming.

Although my son is only 7 years old, he shows great potential with his swimming. He is part of a swim team and we see swim team practices for building on great technique and not perpetuate bad habits or wrong stroke techniques. I wanted to find a coach who can build his foundation with great technique for all strokes. So when I came across Coach Sean on CoachUp, I seized the opportunity and booked my son a session with him.
It is a privilege to have Sean as my son's swim coach. He translates, all his years of experience and knowledge in swimming, to my 7 year old son, very well. He is very intuitive with my son's learning ability and tailors his instruction and drills to his level of maturity and swimming ability. Coach Sean explains and demonstrates technique on areas where he needs fine tuning and he gives him advanced concepts when appropriate. Of course, he makes it fun and enjoyable for a 7 year old to want to come back for more coaching sessions with him.

Coach Sean is a great swim coach. After just two sessions, I've definitely seen improvement in my swimming technique and speed. I learned to swim as an adult and am trying to improve my swimming so I can eventually do a short triathlon and more laps in the pool.

My son really enjoyed his first session with Sean, and we're looking forward to more! I saw a real improvement in his form after one session, and it has been many years since he swam competitively so Sean was starting from scratch! We're looking forward to building him up to swim team at the high school next Spring, and sure he'll get there based on what I've seen so far!

Coach Sean was on time, he was friendly and professional.
After the first session, I can see improvement.
I want my mom to sign me up more sessions with coach Sean!

Sean is an excellent coach. Keeps the athlete engaged and on track. Demonstrates technique and works on enhancement that will turn into real results in the pool.

Coach Sean is great! I'm an adult swimmer and he's helped me to improve my stroke a lot and has given me very useful drills to work on. He's enthusiastic and a good, patient teacher. The one minor thing I have against him is that he's never sent me the summary write ups of our sessions he's promised.

Coach Sean was great and very patient with me as I was learning the flip turn.

Awesome sessions! Coach Sean listened to where my daughter needed improvement and immediately came up with drills that they worked on. He even swam with her to demostrate different strokes. We will definately have more sessions with Coach Sean.

I had my first session with Sean this weekend and it more than exceeded expectations. Sean is an excellent, knowledgeable and encouraging coach. If you are trying to improve your swimming technique you should definitely sign up for some lessons with Sean!

My son really liked Coach Sean. In just one hour, he made a lot of improvement on technique while still having a great time. I look forward to our upcoming sessions!

Sean is absolutely the best... my daughter who is 8 and just started competitive swimming, really enjoys her time with her coach Sean! She looks forward to each session and it's because he is very supportive and motivating. His approach is perfect for teaching and yet he is very technical and sees the finest details from attitude to technique. Highly recommended!

Very happy, Sean I feel did a great job and I would do the lesson again. Antonio liked it and he was very happy.

Great coach with passion to coach and lots competition experiences with analytical knowledge. Sean really helps us a lot.

Sean provided my daughter with a great swim lesson. He explained what he wanted and how to do it. He was in the water with my daughter not only demonstrating proper technique but also showing my daughter what she was doing wrong so she could see it. He made the lesson fun and engaging and my daughter learned a lot. Great swim coach!

Great coach because he discussed what my level was and what I wanted to achieve before getting into the water. He dazzled me with the great techniques and skills. I totally agree with him that my efficiency and forms needs to be improved. He showed my very specific skills and techniques in the water. I felt I have learned more from him within an hour than myself learning 10 years. I definitely felt improvement within the hour training. This coach is sharp and precise. Money was well spent.

Being a proud parent of a 14-year-old boy who swims competitive all year round, I want to make sure my son receives the best training available. Coach Sean definitely is one of the best coaches I can find in the Tri-Valley. He has an unique ability to identify flaws in a stroke and correct them immediately. Amazingly, my son improved 30 seconds in the 200 fly. If you are looking for a coach who unequivocally loves what he does and can see how much fun and passion he has teaching the art of swimming to kids, then go see him.

I was very impressed with Coach Sean. I had written up a list of things my daughter needed to work on and he thoroughly covered everything. He was very detailed and patient and kept my daughter engaged in the process the entire session. I believe Caitlin learned a lot and will implement what Coach Sean taught her at practice and at meets. We will absolutely book future sessions with Sean. I also plan on recommending him to my daughter's teammates or anyone else we know who is interested in private swim coaching. Thanks again Coach Sean!

Sean did a great job identifying areas where my son can improve as a swimmer. He is a real professional and was very involved in demonstrating the proper technique and helping my son grasp the concepts.
