More About Coach Scott

I am 23 years old so I try to set myself apart. I try to make sure the kids are having a blast while refining their skills. I have five years coaching offensive and defensive line experience. Three years at the JV level and two on the Freshman level. Valencia high school and West Ranch high school are the two schools in which I have coached at. I am going to be coaching the offensive and defensive lines for my sixth season at the freshman level at Valencia high school next season. On the weekends Valencia high school ran a skills/speed camp. I have learned a lot from the coaches on staff there. I have been participating in that group work for months but I would like to focus on one-on-one training, in my own personalized program. I have been fully cleared by the William S. Hart School District. I have the ability to teach a five year old the basics on how to throw a football or I can take your senior varsity football player and help him solidify his starting spot.

I played basketball my entire life up to the 8th grade when my basketball coach told me I was playing the wrong sport. He said I played the game "too physically". I showed up for the first day of freshman football and fell in love with the game. I did not have immediate success though. I spent three years sitting on the bench, watching and waiting for my senior year, where I was the leader of my offensive line. I finally had my shot on the big stage and it was the greatest year of my life, having the realization that all of my work had paid off. We went to the CIF Championship my senior year and my school won the Foothill league title all four years I attended and also the six years since I graduated. Valencia high school taught me many of the skills I will pass onto your children. I had aspirations to play college football. I sent my film to many college coaches. The very common response I got was "I love your intensity and technique, but I can't offer you a scholarship because you are simply too short." Immediately after high school I jumped into coaching. I did not know my love for the game could grow stronger, but it did.

Let's say we have a one hour session. The first 10-15 minutes will be spent stretching and warming up. Flexibility is something I believe always gets overlooked so I try to teach it as a fundamental. Flexibility=explosiveness. We will split the remaining time in half. One part will be devoted to strength and agility training while the other half will be football position drills. If your child does not have a position yet then it will be my pleasure to expose him to the positions available to him. I have extensive knowledge in all positions in football. Offensive and defensive lines are my specialty but I have been around so many successful teams that I have had the opportunity to learn all positions of the game. Drills will focus on quick-twitch muscles, leverage, and mentioned previously, explosiveness. I will teach proper running technique as well so there is no wasted movement. I like to enforce hand fighting because there isn't one position on a football field that doesn't require violent hands. To increase these hand skills I like to run drills with tennis balls to increase hand eye coordination and also practice punching against a soft hitting shield. Change of direction drills are also applicable to all positions. Any position, including lineman, need to touch the football and learn basic football skills. I wasn't taught some of these fundamentals and it hurt me down the road. I want to make sure your child is a well rounded and versatile athlete. If one day he doesn't find that football is the sport for him, he will still have a strong foundation to build off of in whatever activity he chooses to participate in.
