More About Coach Schwann

I have been working with track & field athletes since 1998, having worked with youth to collegiate level athletes. My career began coaching youth track clubs before I took over at Villa Walsh Academy and then North Brunswick Twp High School. I've served on the USATF-NJ Board of Trustees as well as served as the USATF-NJ Youth Chairman.Typically, I work with high school level athletes but do work with other ages. I am a USATF Level 1 Certified Sprint Coach.

As an athlete I was a 3x conference 100 meter champion in high school. I competed in all sprints for NCAA Division II Morris Brown College before an injury forced me to transfer to Rowan University where a devastating knee injury forced me to retire. Since then I have coached 15 USATF & AAU All Americans, 3 Meet of Champions Gold Medalists and I've earned 5 Conference & County Coach of the Year awards.

During a typical session an athlete can expect to work on the mechanics of sprinting or jumping. Repetition of drills will be designed to work on specific aspects of their event. I like to focus on drills that increase the front side mechanics of a sprint, like A Drags and modified butt kicks, to decrease the amount of time an athlete spends cycling through their motion. We begin with a warm up of a mixture of movements, static stretching and dynamic stretching. Once warmed up with move through at least 6 different form drills, then we introduce technique equipment to reinforce it. All sessions end with running to practice what was taught.

Coach Schwann was the perfect coach for my daughter! He was not only experienced and taught her appropriate drills and strength training that were track specific, but he was motivating and knew how to boost her self esteem. She always looked forward to her sessions with him and ended her sessions feeling good about herself. He's a very nice person. He was flexible with the meeting location and his availability which made it easier for her to meet with him weekly. We would highly recommend him.

He was great showing my son the correct form to run better and faster.

Just finished our fourth session with Coach Schwann and so far have been very pleased. We really like the workouts and drills and can already see improvements. Love the follow-up comments after each session as well. Looking forward to more sessions with him and seeing the results of the training at the next meet

Great coach knows what he's doing and talking about. Looking forward to continue working with him.

Coach Grimes is awesome. He is helping my son improve his fitness and get ready for track season in middle school. Coach communicates proactively and makes sure to take time and answer all our questions.

Coach Grimes has been my daughters track coach for only 2 seasons, winter and spring of 2015 at North Brunswick Township HS. Not very long in the eyes of many but long enough for me to see what a talented coach he is and more so what an exceptional mentor he has been to my daughter. He is an exceptional individual who understands the dynamics of coaching, competing and the support role that parents play in this process. Coach Grimes has superior communication skills which I have been witness of in the emails that he has sent me regarding my daughter. You can feel the passion he has for what he does, through his words one is able to recognize how dedicated of a coach he is and what a big heart he has. I can see his passion for the sport when he is on the track and how all he wants is to help student athletes reach the potential that he sees in them. I consider my daughter very fortunate for having come across a person of this caliber! – Thank you Coach Grimes.
Coach Grimes is one of the best coaches I have ever had! He is easy to talk to, keeps his athletes on track and knows how to train an athlete not just physically but mentally as well. Coach Grimes has a great sense of humor too. He will do anything for his team and never gives up. He also inspired me in my time of doubt and lent me an ear whenever I needed one and best of all gave me so much good advice on many occasions. He just knows the right things to say and how to say them. I am grateful that I will have another 3 years with him at NBTHS. So “thank you” coach Grimes for everything you’ve done and all that you will do!
