More About Coach Ryan

My background is in Elite level gymnastics having been a gymnast and trained National Team Members and Internationally competitve gymnasts throughout my career. As a gymnastics coach, I have also trained athletes in a number of other sports utilizing gymnastics specific strength and conditioning to increase core strength, stability, balance, and coordination. Research has shown that gymnastics specific exercises increase these areas which directly affect various movements in most other sports. Middle to High School aged athletes can benefit tremendously from this type of training. So, whether you want to increase your running speed or agility; increase your throwing speed; or increase overall strength and power, I can assist with that. I have worked with professional soccer players in Norway, some of whom were members of the Norwegian National Team; Olympic Javelin throwers; wrestlers; martial artists; baseball, football, and basketball players; skiers; cheerleaders; and gymnasts. I have worked with Norwegian National Gymnastics Team and at World Olympic Gymnastics Academy in Texas, where many World and Olympic Medalists have training and are currently training.

I was a member of the US Mens National Gymnastics Team from 1994-1997; National Champion in 1996; received full ride athletic scholarship to UMASS - Amherst

This is largly dependent on the area of focus that the client wants to focus on, however, I will give an example of a one hour session geared for basic core strength and stability:
- Begin with warmup with light stretching
- Exercises for core and stability session would utilize various planking position hold and as the athlete gets more advanced, pulses are added. More advanced planking positions will utilize bands and then bands with pulses. Working on strengthening and "feeling" an arch, straight, and hollow postion in the static will help them to maneuver (dynamic) throughout a variety of positions, whether it be running and manuevering while running or throwing a ball...this core and stability must be strong and stabilized in order to have quick motions. This quickness will equal power in a variey of athletic motions including, but not limited to, running and throwing.
- Cool down with light stetching
