More About Coach Ryan

Hi, my name is Ryan. For the last decade I have been coaching athletes ranging from youth to Div. I Collegiate Athletes, as well as Amateur Bodybuilders and MMA competitors. I have worked with UCSD student athletes and am currently working with the UCLA Athletic Performance Department. I hold a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, as well as a Certified Personal Trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and a Level-I Performance Certification through USA Weightlifting. I have worked with Swim/Dive, Water Polo, Wrestling, Baseball, Soccer, Softball, Golf, Crew, Tennis, Football, and Basketball athletes, developing individualized Strength and Conditioning Programs specific to each sports metabolic demands and injury prevention specific to certain sports. Understanding the energy systems used and replicating the specific stressors related to each sport is important in order to maximize the potential of each athlete. A Water Polo athlete will train differently than a Football player, as the energy systems used are completely different.

I competed as a wrestler at La Jolla High School, where I was a 2x League Champion and 2004 C.I.F. Champion in the 135lb. weight class. I continued competing in wrestling tournaments after High School and started training Mixed Martial Arts. Since then I have competed and placed in multiple Jiu Jitsu tournaments and I still regularly train for recreational purposes, but have found much more satisfaction in training other athletes to their full potential through Strength and Conditioning programs.

My sessions start with some Myofascial Release through the use of foam rolling. A dynamic warm-up will follow, putting the athlete through full ranges of motion and mimicking the movements that are about to take place. The bulk of the workout will consist of various tools such as Kettlebells, Medicine Balls, TRX Bands, Resistance Bands, Dumbells, etc. The focus is on power development, speed, strength, flexibility, and endurance. I usually use a grass field at a nearby park, but I am able to work in a complex gym or use a facility I have access to in the La Jolla area.

Client Reviews

Ryan is awesome! Super knowledgeable, friendly and always incredibly accommodating. He's been great about finding a location that works well for me and has been flexible in working with my hectic schedule. Ryan is great - I highly recommend him.
I started training with Ryan when I was 24, going on 25, going into Basic Training for the Air Force. I wanted to be ahead of the game, be strong, be lean and be fast. Ryan helped me achieve all of that and more in a very short time, and not to brag or anything, but I will for Ryan's sake, I actually graduated Basic Training as having the Top Female PT score out of 700 other airmen and was honored with an award and got to run the Graduation run with my Wing Commander. I am back from basic training and still training with him. I missed his workouts so much while I was gone that I asked him to email me a workout routine to do on my own. He's worth every penny! It's functional stuff.. you don't just look amazing, but you're strength is out of control. He watches your form and makes sure you don't end up with any injuries, and he keeps track of your progress. If you're even considering a personal trainer, please see Ryan. If you already have a trainer or do classes, please, GO SEE RYAN! See for yourself... you will get more out your workouts and your money with him than any of the gym classes or trainers out there. Thanks Ryan, for all your hard work and being committed to my commitments.
I have been training with Ryan for years now and I cannot say enough about his ability, character, and knowledge. During my time playing NCAA football Ryan helped me increase my speed, explosiveness, and overall strength. I would recommend training with Ryan to any athlete looking to compete with the big dogs.
