More About Coach Ryan

Hello! My name is Ryan Cutter and I am a former Division 1 Cross Country and Track and Field runner. Currently I am an Assistant Coach at IUPUI, a top Mid-Major Division 1 college located in Indianapolis. While at IUPUI we have went from 7th in our respected conference, to becoming back-to-back Summit League Champions in just four short years. I have a passion for coaching and love working with motivated athletes who have goals ranging from getting back into shape, to Olympic Trial dreams.

My current athletes range from High School Athletes looking to rise up their varsity ranks, to one athlete who qualified for the 2016 Marathon Trials and will be competing to try to make the U.S team in February 2016. I will gladly take on any athlete under one simple condition: They have to want to succeed in whatever their goal is as badly as I want to see them achieve their dream.

I have had many ups and downs in my career, mentally, spiritually and physically. I charge modest rates due to my love of the sport and more than anything just wanting to see the joy in a clients face and voice after achieving success. That is why I run, that is why I coach.

In college I was a multiple time all-conference performer and still hold multiple school records. I don't like to boast about my Pr's but they are as follows.

800m-1:52.9
1500m-3:48.3
Mile-4:06.8
5000m-14:25
8k Cross Country-25:22

A great runner doesn't always make a great coach, however I try to use my experiences to help an athlete reach their own personal goals no matter what they are!

In short with my distance runners I believe in four key staples of any training plan.

1. Consistency: Whether you run 10 miles a week or 100 miles a week I want consistency. Slowly raise mileage and intensity, building off week to week. Everyday has its purpose whether it be to run hard, long or just recover, everyday brings value to the athlete.

2. Building Aerobic Capacity: Runners are like cars, if you want a fast car what is the first thing you do? You make sure it has a great engine! The Aerobic system is a runners car engine. By focusing on volume and longer sessions we can build a system of strength that leads to long-term success.

3. Personalized: Every athlete is unique in what they need to achieve maximum success. It is not a "one size fits all" plan. Athletes will get week by week training that is completely tailored to them. Training will be written with the athlete either present or on the phone to go over and understand the purpose of everyday. This is not a "cookie-cutter" method.

4. Open Door Policy-I do not charge for phone calls, emails or texts. If my athlete needs something they know I am available 24/7. I never want an athlete to worry about being "charged" because they have a question. My job is to make you better, not ring up a huge bill. Up late nervous before a race at 3am and need to chat? Call me. I have been there and want to always give an athlete my full support. (Can't always guarantee I will pick up!)

I reviewed all the potential coaches in the Indy area on the CoachUp Website that could help my son strengthen his skills and realize his goals in the next three years of high school in cross country and track and Ryan was the Coach I selected! After talking to him on the phone, I know I made a great decision. My son and I are excited about his workout this week and throughout the summer "getting better" on Ryan's plan and leadership. I would recommend Ryan to any young runner coming up thru middle school and high school. Ryan went to a large high school up in northwest Indiana and achieved many impressive times and records as a state finalist. Then he ran D-1 in college and kept improving his times while accomplishing many impressive school records at IUPUI. As an assistant coach at IUPUI, the program has rose from near the bottom to the top of the conference. I wanted a Coach who has just been thru the rigors of high school and college cross country and track with some coaching and Ryan's resume filled our needs better then any of the candidates out there. I highly recommend Ryan as the Coach you want your Son and Daughter to be trained by to improve his or her skills. Ron

Coac Ryan is very knowledgeable about fitness and especially running. I really enjoyed my session with him. If I choose to continues with a running coach it would absolutely be with Coach Ryan.. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for coaching and validation for the sport we love.

I have worked with Ryan for the past year, over the course I have PR'd in every one of my focused events. He is awesome with communication, and really puts his heart and soul into helping me reach my goals and dreams. I couldn't ask for a better friend and coach.
