More About Coach Ruben
I have 10 years coaching experience, from Pop Warner to training high school athletes. I coached with Gut Check located in Mira Loma Ca. While coaching with Gut Check i coached athletes from junior high to high school. I was part of the D-line coaching staff. We focused on footwork, hand-eye coordination, run recognition, and pass rush skills. I also coached in Anaheim Hills Ca. with Canyon Hill pop warner for a few years also working with D-linemen. My strength as coach is bringing the best out of an athlete. I focus on building a strong foundation and good habits. After the foundation is built we work on sharpening skills to get the most out of the athletes abilities.
I have played football since the age of 9 until 19. Through my years I have gained a lot of knowledge and wish to pass that on. In high school I played center where I was offensive lineman of the year and team captain for 3 years. I was second team all conference in the BIG 8 conference with Centennial, Norco, among other prominent high schools . In college I played defensive end at Fullerton college. I redshirted my first year, during that time I came to appreciate the fundamentals. I was never the biggest, fastest or strongest athlete but, I took pride in giving 100% and being relentless. During my redshirt year I focused on building the skills that brought the best out of my skill set. This is what inspired me to was to coach and pass my knowledge to the next generation of athletes.
Typical training session would consist of a warm up, dynamic stretch. We would then move to footwork drill on ladders and hurdles. Moving on to building a 3 point stance, get offs, and other basic skills. Moving on to hand eye coordination drills and finishing with specific element of the sport. We would focus on run fits recognizing different blocks and how to defend them. We would then move to pass rush drill working on techniques to be the best pass rusher possible. Finally wrapping up with light conditioning and reviewing the session.
