More About Coach Roderick
I have several years of football coaching experience working with middle school and high school athletes, specializing in skill development for Running Backs and Wide Receivers. My coaching philosophy emphasizes fundamentals, discipline, competitive effort, and game-speed execution.
I have worked within structured team environments, assisting with offensive development, position-specific training, practice planning, and athlete mentorship. My experience includes designing and implementing drills focused on route running, release techniques, ball security, change-of-direction mechanics, vision development, and in-game situational awareness.
In addition to team coaching, I provide individualized skill training to improve explosiveness, agility, football IQ, and positional technique. I primarily work with athletes ages 12–18, but I also mentor and train younger athletes who are serious about development.
My approach combines technical instruction, film-based feedback principles, and leadership development to help athletes improve both on and off the field.
At Myers Park High School (Charlotte, NC), I served on the varsity coaching staff for one of North Carolina’s premier high school football programs.
My responsibilities have included:
• Assistant coach with focus on Offense, Running Backs, and Special Teams
• Installation of run-game concepts and offensive philosophy
• Weekly practice planning and opponent scouting
• Active role in game-planning and in-game adjustments
• Leading offseason conditioning and player development programs
• Mentoring student-athletes academically and behaviorally
• Helping engineer a program turnaround from 5–7 to 11–2 through discipline, accountability, and offseason development
I emphasize fundamentals, situational awareness, explosiveness, ball security, and mental toughness in every athlete I train.
My goal is to develop complete athletes — technically sound, mentally prepared, and confident in high-pressure game situations.
I competed at both the elite high school and NCAA Division I collegiate levels.
At Independence High School (Charlotte, NC), I rushed for a Mecklenburg County record 42 touchdowns as a senior while totaling 2,496 rushing yards (7.4 yards per carry). I helped lead Independence to its eighth consecutive state championship appearance and was selected to play in the North Carolina Shrine Bowl.
As a junior at West Charlotte High School, I was named the 2006 Charlotte Observer Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for 2,237 yards (8.7 yards per carry) and 24 touchdowns. During my high school career, I recorded multiple 300-yard rushing performances and demonstrated versatility by adding over 200 receiving yards as a senior.
I went on to compete at the NCAA Division I level at Appalachian State University, where I averaged 6.3 yards per carry and earned Academic All–Southern Conference recognition for excellence both on the field and in the classroom.
These experiences at championship-level programs shaped my understanding of preparation, discipline, and high-performance football culture — principles I now pass on to the athletes I train.
Each session is structured to develop explosive movement, technical mastery, football IQ, and game-speed execution. Training is tailored to the athlete’s position, age, and development level.
1) Dynamic Warm-Up & Movement Prep (10 Minutes)
• Sprint mechanics & acceleration starts
• Lateral movement & change-of-direction prep
• Hip mobility & reactive footwork
