More About Coach Robert
I am returning for my third season on the varsity staff of a local high school, coaching the Quarterback position. I bring knowledge from my experiences through my High School and College mentors such as: Thomas Whiting, Don Norford, Jerry Jaso, Marv Marinovich, Homer Smith, Rick Neuheisel, Jon Embree, Kennedy Pola, and EJ Doc Kries. In the past 2 years, I have made great strides with quarterbacks and have earned the title “Passing Game Coordinator”. This will be my second year as the Passing Game Coordinator.
In 1999, I received my Bachelors of Arts Degree from the University of Colorado with an emphasis in Ethnic Studies. There, I was a four year letterman playing wide receiver for the Buffaloes. I showed promise but, during my senior year I suffered a career ending knee injury that put me on the sidelines for good. Upon returning to California, I have been working in the motion picture industry on major studio lots in the Los Angeles County. Last year, I decided to walk out of the profession and follow my aspirations of working with athletes, while also pursuing my own business endeavors.
“WINNING CAN BE A HABIT. ONCE YOU GET USED TO IT, IF YOU CAN STAY FOCUSED, YOU WON’T SETTLE FOR ANYTHING LESS.”
I was born and raised in Long Beach, California and I grew up playing football in the Long Beach Poly Pop Warner youth program. As High School approached it was an easy decision that I was going to be a Jackrabbit. I attended Poly from 1991-1995 and played football, baseball, and basketball and was a member of the CIC Academic program. I excelled in all sports at the Varsity level but my passion was football. I was a three year starter for the Rabbits under Offensive Coordinator Thomas Whitting. For those three years Poly posted a record of 30-6. I threw for 5,197 yards, 42 touchdown passes, 11 rushing touchdowns, and 14 interceptions during that time. I received honors as a sophomore as the Most Outstanding Offensive Player while my junior and senior year, I was a Captain and was the recipient of the Offensive M.V.P. I was also first team All-South Coast and All-Moore League as a sophomore, junior, and senior, and was selected as the league’s Most Valuable Player his junior year. I earned a Century Club Award, Who’s Who All-American honors as a senior and I was also selected to the Blue Chip All-West Region team, the SuperPrep All-Far West team, and the High School Dream Team.
Warm -Up
We will always start with a warm-up and stretch. Which is a jog, dynamic stretching, and running drills. Once that is done, we will begin an upper and lower body QB warm-up.
Work-Out
Agility, plyometrics, and QB drops and roll outs. QB ball handling, QB instict and reaction. As we proceed will talk about defenses to obtain an overall view of the QB position.
Warm Down
At the end of every work-out there is a warm down. Light jog, stretch, ab work, and low back work.
