More About Coach Ray
I have been in the Fitness Industry for 5 years but I have been coaching/mentoring/teaching since 2002. I love people and am passionate about helping them learn, grow and succeed.
I am a CrossFit L3 Trainer. In addition to owning and operating my own gym, CrossFit Stronghold in San Diego, I am a member of the Seminar Staff for CrossFit Headquarters. I teach the L1 Trainer course as well as the CrossFit Weightlifting Course.
Outside of CrossFit, I am a USA Weightlifting Club Coach and run Stronghold Barbell Club.
Additionally, I am a movement and mobility coach with Movement Rx specializing in movement analysis, corrective movement coaching, education. I help teach movement and mobility clinics and workshops.
I have coached athletes all over the world of different ages, abilities, and with varying disabilities. I have experience coaching kids, teens, adults, the elderly, and special needs.
I admittedly have never excelled at any one sport, but it's safe to say that I'm very well rounded. I played high school sports all 4 years: Cross Country, Wrestling, Track, Roller Hockey, and Lacrosse. In college I played lacrosse at UCSD. I rock climbed all through college, I surf, I've competed in triathlons, I was a SCUBA instructor. My current focus is in strength gymnastics, olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, and CrossFit. I also continue to play roller hockey in an adult league.
I'm a jack of all trades, and my knowledge in each is pretty in depth. I'm a perpetual student and my goal is to understand how my athletes should feel in whatever discipline so that I can relate to their needs and help them be the best they can.
Each training session has a goal in mind. That goal ultimately is a progressive step toward the athlete's overall goal.
An athlete can expect to warm up with drills that will challenge and improve their mobility and optimize their positions so they can move as efficiently and safely as possible. We will also incorporate muscle activation drills to maximize muscle and motor recruitment for the upcoming workout.
Workouts will emphasize solid mechanics (form) and have longevity in mind. My goal for every athlete is to enjoy life and their sport (or simply the joy of training) for years to come.
All workouts will end with a cool down meant to facilitate recovery and prepare the athlete for future training or competition.
