More About Coach Pete
I have 11 years of High School Coaching experience in Track and Field and strength and conditioning. My specialty is the Pole Vault and Javelin, but I have experience in all events. I am currently the Head Boy's Varsity Track and Field Coach at Valley View School District. I am a USATF Level 1 Certified Coach and hold a National Pole Vault Coaches Association certificate. I can work with all age groups and abilities, from a day 1 beginner to an elite level adult. In the pole vault, I have coached 6 school record holders, the State record holder (16'6), the District record holder (15'3), the League record holder (16'6), 2 State Champions, 1 Indoor State champion, 3 New Balance National qualifiers, 1 New Balance Indoor All-American, 4 State qualifiers, 4 District champions, 4 District runner-ups, 2 Times-Tribune Male Performer of the Year Award Winners, 3 All-State selections, and numerous invitational champions and medalists. In the Javelin, I have coached 2 school record holders (199'7 HS and 161' JH), the former League record holder (188'7), 2 State qualifiers, 2 New Balance National Qualifiers, 1 New Balance All-American, 1 USATF Junior Olympic Champion, and numerous invitational champions and medalist. I am a full-time teacher, so I have all my background checks and clearances.
I participated in Track & Field at Coughlin High School where I was a district qualifier in the pole vault. I had no formal training, but was still able to be successful through trial and error. My formal training began when I became a Track and Field Coach in 2006.
Sessions can vary from basic fundamentals of the vault and javelin with beginners to specific drills and techniques for the advanced athlete. I follow the Petrov model of the pole vault and work with UCS poles for their unique and consistent bend. I can be hired for individual or group sessions and would also consider coaching other coaches on the fundamentals of the vault and/or javelin. I follow the USATF method for javelin training.
